"Are you afraid? Didn't you just say you liked chewing on fear? Want to experience the pleasure of devouring it?" The voice in the darkness pressed Gao Ming for an answer, as though the fourth question was what he had truly wanted to ask.
"I'm not afraid. I'm just wondering why you're asking these questions." Gao Ming's gaze moved among the four stalls, trying to determine where the other person was hiding. "What should I call you?"
"You can call me Toilet Doctor." The voice in the darkness was a little unnerving. He seemed to be trapped by something and had to find the right answer. "Don't think. Let instinct take over your body and tell me your most honest answer. What do you think is Behind the Door?"
A door was both a barrier and a safeguard. Opening it led somewhere else; closing it cut off the way back.
If all he saw was a bathroom stall door, then whatever lay behind it would be something from reality. Looking at the pictures drawn on the doors, Gao Ming remembered the nightmares he had had while unconscious. To him, one side of the door was reality, and the other was a nightmare.
"I've forgotten a lot. I can't see it very clearly anymore. There seems to be a city on the other side of the door, but it also seems like a grave. I remember a lot of people living there. Or were they ghosts to begin with?"
