The call was cut off. Gao Ming had wanted to chat with the old man a little longer.

The sun at the edge of the city looked like a rotten orange, sinking beneath the horizon with a hazy, sticky afterglow. Tonight seemed even darker than yesterday, and the temperature had dropped considerably.
"Did it get colder?" Wu Wei pulled her collar tighter and looked at the buildings in the darkness, camera in hand.
The old Takekawa Pharmaceuticals site covered an enormous area. Besides the pharmaceutical factory and testing facilities, it also contained two apartment buildings for staff.
"This way." At the end of the alley, Gao Ming found a patrolling Night Watch officer. The man was tall, with deathly pale skin, fine black veins creeping up his neck, and a long, thin scar at the corner of his mouth.
After dark, the Night Watch officers put on black raincoats, though this particular officer disliked covering his entire body.
"Ding Xiang sent us. We're going in to film." Gao Ming did not even bother making up an excuse. He stuffed the money Ding Xiang had prepared into the man's hand. "We only scraped together enough for one person. Once we're done filming, I'll give you a cut."
Gao Ming took out an IOU he had prepared beforehand. At this point, he genuinely did not care how much more debt he accumulated. Unfortunately, the officer would not play along. Without even looking at the IOU, he pointed at Wu Wei. "She stays. Bring the camera and follow me. I'll get you inside before my shift ends."
