"I have my own channels. Stick with me, and I guarantee you'll never run short of medicine." The old man sounded confident, a hint of mystery in his words.

"We can talk about joining your team later. I've locked him up for you. Come get him yourself." The Corpse Ghost seemed bored. He put away his stun baton and sat in a corner of the room, his body completely concealed beneath his black raincoat.

"So stubborn. I'm only looking out for you." The old man checked his surroundings again. Having tested the Corpse Ghost's reaction, he gave a whistle.

Three Night Watch officers emerged from different directions. The old man hadn't come alone. If the Corpse Ghost had tried to harm him just now, he would probably already have been surrounded and attacked.

"Did you bring all these people to kill me?" The Corpse Ghost's eyes were hidden beneath his hood. A strange noise came from his throat, like pieces of bone knocking together. Something moved beneath his skin, slowly pushing his raincoat outward.

"Better safe than sorry." The old man waved a hand. "There are too many bad people in this world, always scheming against each other. A warmhearted old fellow like me is the easiest target. You have to stay on your guard."

"So that's your secret to a long life? All those years, and you've lived no better than a dog." The Corpse Ghost gave a cold laugh and said nothing more.

Two Night Watch officers entered the room and placed the medicine bottles on the table, then opened the cage. Each took one of the iron chains. Once they had restricted the monster's movements, they clamped a heavy metal shackle over his shoulders.

"Get out here!"
