Background / History
Fu Shouci had an arranged engagement with an unnamed childhood acquaintance. Neither initially had a romantic attachment, so they intended to honor their families’ arrangement. He broke off the engagement ten years before Tang Yan’s arrival after falling for someone else 8.
His subsequent lover, Bai Yi, presented himself as a beautiful woman. Fu maintained the relationship for ten years without discovering that Bai Yi was a male fox spirit using illusions 17 18.
Fu also intervened when Ye Sheng returned from his travels devastated by the apparent death of his lover, Su Ningzhen, and nearly took his own life. The other Peak Masters remembered Fu stopping him, but did not initially know the cause of Ye’s despair 31.
Appearance
- Has a stern face and deliberately maintains a dignified expression in public 19 44.
- Wears white robes when visiting Bai Yi after the deception is exposed 18.
Personality
Fu values his authority and the sect’s reputation, reprimanding senior cultivators when they behave childishly and objecting when disciples neglect cultivation. His own appetite for gossip undermines that stern image: he eagerly listens to revelations about Liang Qiu and later joins hidden spectators at Artifact Peak while insisting he merely happened to pass by 16 26 37 44.
He is protective of his disciples but does not rely on goodwill alone. He arranges concealed bodyguards for the cultivationless Tang Yan and prioritizes Li Mo and Feng Sheng’s safety over their investigation. When facing suspected enemies, he favors secrecy, evidence, and coordinated containment rather than accusations that might warn them or provoke political conflict 26 41 46.
Bai Yi’s supposed pregnancy reveals his longing for a child: he celebrates enthusiastically, gives Bai Yi substantial funds, and proposes a Dao Companion Ceremony. The exposure of the fraud leaves him deeply humiliated, though he continues conducting sect business in public 16 17 18.
Abilities & Skills
Cultivation
The supplied chapters give inconsistent descriptions of Fu’s current realm. They do not document a breakthrough or an actual regression between those descriptions.
| Description | Chapter | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Half-Step Tribulation Transcendence | 16 | Explicitly stated while explaining why having a biological child would be exceptionally difficult for him. |
| Void Insight Dao Venerable | 17 | Tang Yan describes Fu and Liang Qiu as two Void Insight Dao Venerables deceived by Bai Yi. |
| Peak Void Insight | 33 | Used as a comparison with the expert secretly protecting Dong Yi. |
| Body Integration — predicted future regression | 20 | Tang Yan recalls a future in which Fu develops an inner demon after losing his direct disciples. This is a warning, not an event shown to have occurred. |
Divine Sense
Fu uses Divine Sense to investigate unusual phenomena and communicate privately with other senior cultivators 7 8 19.
- Searches for the source of Tang Yan’s mysterious voice alongside the Peak Masters 7.
- Suffers an injury when Tang Yan’s protective system repels his attempt to examine him 8.
- Cannot resist Xi Tong entering his Sea of Consciousness; he considers its power greater than any he has previously encountered 14 18.
Spiritual-Energy Combat
Fu can immobilize opponents and gather surrounding spiritual energy into powerful attacks 22 48.
- Immobilizes Elder Sun with one attack before landing outside the Shadow Prison 22.
- Defeats Han Zhongjin while the other senior cultivators seal the surrounding space; Han is described as having cultivation comparable to his 48.
- Kills the Divine Incarnation-stage Evil Being raised at Han’s estate 49.
Condensed Sword Techniques
Fu stores sword techniques he has condensed in his spare time and distributes them as emergency protection 41.
- Gives protective techniques to Li Mo and Feng Sheng before their journey to the Feng Family 41.
- States that the techniques can withstand three attacks from a Divine Incarnation cultivator 41.
Soul-Searching Technique
Fu offers to personally use Soul Searching to establish Han Zhongjin’s guilt, but the group recognizes that someone of comparable cultivation might resist 48.
- Takes Han to Xu Yi so a stronger cultivator can conduct the search 48 49.
- The search supplies the intelligence used to locate Han’s estate and organize the subsequent raid 49.
Equipment / Items
- Sumeru Ring — holds sword techniques, formation plates, talismans, and pills that he distributes to departing disciples 41.
- Platinum jade token — gives Bai Yi one containing 500,000 High-Grade Spirit Stones after the false pregnancy announcement 16.
- Mustard Seed Space — retrieves a pair of his own worn socks from it and uses them to gag Han Zhongjin 49.
Relationships
- Xiao Jixue — Eldest direct disciple and the sect’s chief disciple. Fu relies on him to arrange Tang Yan’s accommodations and visits to other peaks 9 15 26.
- Li Mo — Second direct disciple. Fu assigns him to accompany and protect Feng Sheng during her return to the Feng Family 16 41.
- Feng Sheng — Third direct disciple. Fu entrusts her with exposing Lü Rongrong’s suspicious behavior or preventing her brother’s marriage 16 41.
- Cui Yishu — Fourth direct disciple 16.
- Tang Yan — Fifth direct disciple, called “Little Five.” Fu accepts him despite his lost cultivation and secretly uses his overheard thoughts to protect the sect 14 15 26.
- Liang Qiu — Divine Medicine Sect Grand Elder and long-standing rival. Their shared deception by Bai Yi leads to reluctant solidarity and cooperation against infiltrators 16 18 19 26.
- Bai Yi — Lover who deceives him about his identity, fidelity, and pregnancy. Bai Yi escapes their confrontation through an illusion 17 18.
- Xu You — Junior martial brother and Peak Master. Fu consoles him after learning that his wife and biological daughter were victims of Jiang Liu’er’s schemes 7.
- Xu Yi — Grandmaster and senior sect authority. Fu calls him out of seclusion to strengthen prison security and later requests his help with Han Zhongjin 37 49.
- Ye Sheng — Fellow senior sect member whose attempted suicide Fu prevented 31.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Discovering Tang Yan’s Hidden Knowledge
Fu first hears Tang Yan’s thoughts while Xiao Jixue’s group reports its completed mission. He and the Peak Masters are unable to identify the voice’s source, but Xu You’s reaction to the family revelations persuades Fu that the information may be genuine 7.
After identifying Tang Yan as the speaker, Fu attempts a Divine Sense probe and is injured by his protector. He later learns that only cultivators at Golden Core or above can hear Tang’s thoughts. Xi Tong forbids listeners from revealing this to Tang, and Fu’s group concludes that he possesses a Heaven-and-Earth Supreme Treasure 8 14.
Fu formally accepts Tang Yan as his fifth direct disciple, giving him a legitimate place within the sect despite his inability to cultivate 14 15.
Bai Yi’s Deception
Bai Yi claims to be three months pregnant. Fu’s examination appears to confirm it, prompting him to provide 500,000 High-Grade Spirit Stones and propose marriage 16.
During preparations for the Two-Sect Grand Competition, Tang Yan’s thoughts expose Bai Yi’s simultaneous relationship with Liang Qiu, his true identity, and the fabricated pregnancy. His innate illusions explain why neither man detected the deception 16 17 18.
Fu and Liang confront Bai Yi, but he escapes. Their shared humiliation eases their hostility. When Tang’s thoughts warn that deliberate provocation could someday turn their sects against one another, both begin treating that possibility seriously 18 19.
Preparing for the Demon Clan’s Return
Tang Yan predicts the destruction of Fu’s disciple group, Fu’s cultivation regression, and the sect’s decline to third-rate status within twenty years. These warnings alarm Fu and the elders, who already know that demonic energy in ancient war ruins has grown unstable 20.
The discovery that Elder Sun has been possessed by a departed Demon Clan soul reveals that ordinary examinations cannot reliably detect infiltrators. Fu also notices her lack of reaction to Tang Yan’s thoughts and forms the theory, rather than a confirmed rule, that spies and malicious people cannot hear them 22 23.
His response includes:
- Secret investigations of peak administrators, Golden Core disciples, and suspicious incidents from the previous decade 26.
- Additional Shadow Prison formations and traps using Xu Zhenzhen and Jiang Liu’er as bait 26 36 37.
- Seven-day rotations of concealed bodyguards for Tang Yan, beginning with Fei Zhong 26.
- Coordination with Liang Qiu on investigations and warnings to other major organizations 26.
- Secret protection for Wei Lianyi and testing of her ability to sense evil before assigning her to the Law Enforcement Hall 37.
Investigating the Immortal Silence Tower
After Xiao Jixue reports Lü Rongrong’s connection to Demon Clan remnants, Fu sends Feng Sheng and Li Mo to the Feng Family. He instructs them to uncover suspicious behavior or stop Feng Chen’s marriage, rather than make unsupported accusations against the respected Immortal Silence Tower 41.
He approves Bai Wuxia’s proposal to involve the hostile Two Arts Sect and pressure the Tower alongside the Feng Family. Before the disciples depart, he supplies protective techniques and other resources, explicitly placing their safety ahead of the mission 41.
Capturing Han Zhongjin
Fu had ordered an investigation after the first of several male disciples disappeared, but the Law Enforcement Hall found no leads. Tang Yan’s revelations at Artifact Peak finally connect the disappearances to Han Zhongjin 45 47.
Because Han possesses a renowned escape technique, Fu coordinates a spatial blockade before luring him into Artifact Peak Hall. He defeats Han and takes him to Xu Yi for Soul Searching 46 48 49.
That night, Fu leads the assault on Han’s concealed town with Peak Masters, direct disciples, and two Tribulation Transcendence Dao Venerables. The operation destroys the Evil Being and rescues more than a hundred captives, including the missing disciple Qiu Ling 49.
