With the wedding over, Han Jin finally had some time to himself.
He excused himself to the restroom, hid in a stall, and hurriedly opened the website.
He had been short on time that morning and had only bet twenty thousand. To his surprise, he had multiplied it into eighty thousand.
"Fuck!" But Han Jin was far from satisfied. He cursed under his breath in the stall and clicked his tongue. "I should've bet more!"
Ning Shile couldn't help rolling his eyes when he heard that. This guy really is greedy!
He's multiplied his money several times over and still isn't satisfied? He wants even more? What kind of gambler's mentality is that?
Ning Shile exchanged a look with Zheng Ye, asking whether he was ready.
Zheng Ye straightened his clothes and gave a slight nod.
Ning Shile glanced at the restroom stall, cleared his throat, and deliberately raised his voice. "President Zheng, that tip of yours really was accurate! I placed a bet today using the inside information you gave me. Guess what happened?"
"I won eight million!" Ning Shile held out his hands and widened his eyes, as though he really had won that much.
Zheng Ye found Ning Shile rather cute and couldn't hold back a laugh.
Ning Shile bumped him and put on a stern expression, signaling for him to say his lines.
Zheng Ye composed himself and read his lines woodenly. "Yes, I'm a VIP client."
He even faltered for a moment, glanced at his cheat sheet, and continued, "So I have a dedicated croupier. She told me."
...Brother Ye's acting is awful.
Ning Shile pulled Zheng Ye closer and whispered, "Come on, put some feeling into it."
Zheng Ye was puzzled. He was putting plenty of feeling into it, wasn't he?
Ning Shile sighed. "This won't work. It sounds too fake! You couldn't even fool me, let alone him."
Click—
The stall door suddenly opened. Ning Shile immediately shut his mouth and stepped away from Zheng Ye.
Ning Shile slipped his phone back into his pocket and turned on the faucet, pretending to wash his hands without so much as looking at Han Jin.
Meanwhile, Han Jin's attention was entirely on the two of them. He kept glancing at Zheng Ye, looking as though he wanted to say something.
Ning Shile was stunned. He actually bought it?
Han Jin believed acting that terrible?
Zheng Ye straightened his back and lifted his chin, looking quite confident.
He had done a good job. Wasn't it only natural to believe him? He could become a best actor!
In a good mood, Zheng Ye turned to leave. Han Jin immediately followed him, seemingly needing quite some time to work up his courage before speaking. "President Zheng?"
Zheng Ye stopped and slowly turned around. "Can I help you?"
That's more like it!
Ning Shile grew excited. Yes, yes, yes! That's exactly the kind of pretentious, domineering CEO vibe we need!
Han Jin smiled obsequiously. "I just heard you say you had some inside information?"
Tell him you don't! Pretending to hide it at first will make it more convincing!
At that, Zheng Ye obediently shook his head. "I don't."
"I heard everything just now." Han Jin gave Zheng Ye a ingratiating smile.
He knew Zheng Ye and was well aware of the Zheng Family's influence. With Zheng Ye's resources and abilities, getting his hands on inside information like that would be child's play.
Unwilling to miss this opportunity, Han Jin bit the bullet. "President Zheng, don't keep it from me. Anyone who plays this wants to win more."
Zheng Ye said nothing.
"Didn't you just tell him?" Han Jin glanced at Ning Shile before continuing, "What difference would one more person make, right?"
Seizing the moment, Ning Shile hurried forward and pretended to look troubled. "It's not that Brother Ye doesn't want to tell you. It's just that the information is sometimes accurate and sometimes not. There's no need."
What difference would one more person make? What did you just promise Bai Qiongyu?
Ning Shile pursed his lips.
You lying jerk. I'm going to poke your ass full of holes!
Han Jin hurried to respond with an ingratiating smile. "That's fine, that's fine! Having something is better than nothing!"
Ning Shile looked Han Jin up and down, then circled him once before asking in feigned surprise, "Oh, aren't you the groom?"
Then he followed up with another question. "Didn't you say at the wedding that you weren't going to do this anymore?"
Here's one more chance to repent.
If you stop gambling, we'll pretend none of this happened.
Han Jin chuckled. "That was just something to tell a woman. What does she know?"
He glanced at Ning Shile and spoke in a friendly tone, apparently trying to build rapport. "We're all just having a little fun, right? Besides, this is a way to make money!"
Ning Shile took a deep breath but still played along. "Right, right."
You hopeless gambler! We gave you a chance, and you wouldn't take it! President Zheng, go get him!
Zheng Ye spoke at just the right moment. "I can give you the information, but I have a condition."
Han Jin's eyes immediately lit up. "Name it!"
Zheng Ye's tone was indifferent as he lifted his eyes and fixed them on Han Jin. "We split the profits thirty-seventy."
Han Jin's expression stiffened for a moment.
Thirty-seventy? Tsk, a capitalist through and through! The Zheng Family's business was enormous, with any single project easily worth tens of billions, yet he still wouldn't let this little bit of money slide?
Though inwardly resentful, Han Jin agreed generously. "Sure! Once I make a profit, I'll give you thirty percent!"
Zheng Ye smiled. He spoke very slowly, yet his voice carried a deadly menace. "I meant seventy for me."
Han Jin almost failed to keep his expression under control as he stared at Zheng Ye in disbelief.
What? Seventy for him? Han Jin had to put up the capital and shoulder the risk, then give him seventy percent of the profits?!
Ning Shile was a little dumbfounded too.
This hadn't been part of their discussion! Seventy percent? What if he pushed Han Jin too far?
Zheng Ye, however, remained perfectly composed. The fact that he had said it meant he was completely confident.
With something like this, the more readily he agreed, the less the other person would believe him.
During the negotiation, he had to make the other person feel troubled and torn. That way, they wouldn't have time to consider whether the whole thing was real.
Sure enough, Han Jin gritted his teeth. "Fine! Seventy for you! But only if I make a profit."
!
Ning Shile jolted.
That was amazing!
Zheng Ye curled his lips. "Agreed."
He took out his phone, opened the link, and said, "Number two in the first race, number eight in the second."
Han Jin nodded. After thinking it over, he only bet eighty thousand on the first race.
Once Han Jin had left, Zheng Ye lifted his chin at Ning Shile, seeking praise. "Well?"
Ning Shile gave him a thumbs-up. "Impressive."
You've really got that supervillain vibe!
Zheng Ye: "..."
Throughout the latter half of the banquet, Han Jin kept staring at his phone, clearly distracted.
Bai Qiongyu was busy making small talk, seeing guests off, and keeping everything in order. She was clearly overwhelmed. Yet when she looked up, she saw Han Jin playing on his phone. Anger surged through her, and she couldn't help walking over to confront him. "What are you doing? Can't you see how busy it is?"
Han Jin hurriedly turned off his screen and looked up. "I had something to take care of, but I'm done now."
He smiled and patted Bai Qiongyu's shoulder. "Thanks for all your hard work, honey. Leave the rest to me."
Bai Qiongyu gave a cold snort and said nothing more.
Han Jin took over seeing the guests off, standing by the entrance and exchanging pleasantries with them.
But his mind clearly wasn't on the guests. He held his phone and kept sneaking glances at it whenever Bai Qiongyu turned away.
The race had already begun, but the number two horse Han Jin had bet on remained in last place. It was even dozens of meters behind the leader.
"Come on, run!"
Han Jin grew anxious. Had Zheng Ye tricked him?
He slowly came to his senses. Come to think of it, how could there possibly be inside information for something like this?
Han Jin's expression darkened.
If there really were inside information, wouldn't it have spread everywhere by now?
Damn it, he must have been lying!
Han Jin's brows drew tightly together, and he was starting to lose his temper.
Seeing him like that, the guests around him didn't dare speak to him and could only awkwardly turn to Bai Qiongyu instead.
Bai Qiongyu already had plenty to deal with, and this only made her more irritable. She strode over and couldn't help raising her voice. "What on earth are you doing?!"
"What the fuck could I be doing?" Han Jin lost control and shouted at Bai Qiongyu.
Bai Qiongyu froze, apparently never having expected Han Jin to speak to her like that.
The scumbag can't keep up his act anymore!
Ning Shile secretly watched from behind a pillar. Seeing that the time was right, he sent Cheng Yang a message.
A few seconds later, Han Jin's phone suddenly vibrated.
Irritated, he switched on the screen, only to see a huge line of text.
Winner: Number 2!
??!
Han Jin's mind buzzed and went blank.
It took him a few seconds to react. His heart began pounding, and he could no longer hold back his smile.
It was real! Zheng Ye hadn't lied to him!
And because number two had pulled off a comeback from behind, the odds were higher! The payout was bigger!
"Ha!" Han Jin laughed aloud. As though suddenly remembering something, he hurriedly told Bai Qiongyu, "Baby, I have something to do. Handle things yourself for a bit. I'll be right back!"
Han Jin turned and left, his palms burning.
There really was inside information. He was going to bet even more on the next race!
