"...Optimize the villagers?" Ning Shile feigned surprise as he looked at the tall, thin man. "Sir, is that what you said?"
[I'm dying. He's stirring the pot.]
[Hahahahaha, nicely done, Ning Shile!]
"No, no!" The tall, thin man's entire face flushed red. Looking at Ning Shile, he explained in a panic, "I never said that. She misheard me!"
"Why would we optimize the villagers? They were born and raised here. They're locals!" The tall, thin man grew anxious. If the livestream viewers heard that, would he even have a job left?
After a long pause, the tall, thin man added, "Specialists will come to manage the factory later. The villagers will only have to do some assembly-line work. It's very simple."
Ning Shile nodded. Having coaxed out everything he wanted to know, he was ready to make his graceful exit.
Ning Shile turned to Sister Ting and said with a smile, "Sis, you've misunderstood. He didn't mean that."
"What do you mean, I misunderstood?" Sister Ting knitted her brows. She was gentle and timid, and after glaring at the tall, thin man for a long time, she finally managed to squeeze out, "There's something wrong with his head. He can't even remember what he just said. Don't bother with him!"
Ning Shile secretly chuckled.
It wasn't that the man couldn't remember. He simply couldn't afford to remember.
Sister Ting, however, didn't understand the subtleties involved. She just thought the tall, thin man kept changing his story and seemed unreliable, so she stopped paying attention to him.
Instead, she turned her attention to Ning Shile.
"Are you digging up wild greens?" Sister Ting looked at the greens in Ning Shile's basket. There were plenty of varieties, but few that tasted good. Young people surely wouldn't enjoy shepherd's purse and the like.
