The Energy Ball rapidly took shape above Butterfree's head, then shot toward Marowak with tremendous destructive power.

Jin Wu was briefly stunned to see Ye Tian's Butterfree use a Grass-type move. He had not known Butterfree could learn Energy Ball.
As a pure Ground-type Pokémon, Marowak was highly vulnerable to Grass-type attacks. Jin Wu did not dare let it take the hit head-on, choosing instead to answer with Protect.

Once it had finished gathering the energy, Marowak shaped it into a transparent barrier in front of itself.
Butterfree's Energy Ball struck the barrier, which immediately began to hiss as the attack tried to break through.
A Protect barrier was not so easily shattered. In the end, Marowak blocked Butterfree's Energy Ball.
