"You did great. Come back, Togekiss." Zhang Cheng recalled his fainted Togekiss.
"I choose you, Kingdra!"
Against Chandelure, whose main attacks were Fire-type moves, Zhang Cheng chose Kingdra. Its Water and Dragon typing gave it quadruple resistance to Fire-type attacks.
"Chandelure, Pain Split!"
The instant Kingdra appeared on the battlefield, Jiang Chi ordered Chandelure to use the strange move that could divide their HP equally.
Chandelure was badly injured, while the newly deployed Kingdra was still in peak condition. If this Pain Split landed, it would erase all of Chandelure's previous disadvantage.
Following its Trainer's command, Chandelure shot a stream of energy from its body toward Kingdra.
Zhang Cheng knew this well, too. Naturally, he would never give his opponent that opportunity, and he quickly ordered Kingdra to defend.
"Kingdra, use Protect!"
"Hass~ Hass~"
Sensing danger, Kingdra swiftly used the energy around its body to form a protective barrier.
Once formed, the barrier blocked Chandelure's incoming attack. This strange energy had no destructive power and could not break through its defenses.
"Our turn to fight back! Kingdra, use Hydro Pump!"
Water-type moves were highly effective against Chandelure, and Zhang Cheng naturally made the most of that type advantage.
"Hass! Hass!"
Kingdra absorbed Water Energy and transformed it into a massive water dragon. Once formed, the dragon opened its gaping maw and lunged to bite Chandelure.
"Chandelure, Memento!"
Jiang Chi's battling style was ruthless. After Pain Split failed, the badly injured Chandelure would struggle to withstand this attack, so he might as well get the most value out of it.
At its Trainer's command, two streams of energy shot out of Chandelure's body. Under their influence, Kingdra's physical attack and special attack both dropped sharply.
Memento activated successfully, and Chandelure's last remaining HP was depleted.
Chandelure clearly used this move often.
