She was now certain that this man was someone she could never stand against.
Lind said nothing, merely watching her with an ambiguous smile.
Leone's smile froze on her face.
The force bearing down on her had not increased, yet some inexplicable presence made her feel as though she were suffocating.
She could only turn her gaze toward Akame.
Girl, rein in your man! Help me!
Akame: "..."
You clearly brought this on yourself.
She had tried to stop her earlier.
After a moment's thought, Akame turned her head away.
Her master would not kill Leone anyway. Teaching her a lesson about her impulsiveness would not hurt.
Leone: "???"
She stared at Akame in disbelief.
Your comrade's in this state, and you're just pretending not to see?
So that's the kind of person you are.
"Ahem."
Najenda coughed and shot Akame a meaningful look.
She had no relationship with this man and knew nothing of his temperament.
She really did not dare speak up rashly.
Seeing this, Akame hesitated before saying softly, "Master, Leone has learned her lesson. Could you..."
Lind smiled faintly and said calmly, "All right. Since my beloved Familiar has pleaded for her."
"I'll let her off this time."
As his words fell, the oppressive presence filling the room vanished completely.
"Phew!"
Leone's body twisted, and she collapsed onto the floor like a puddle of mud.
"Are you all right, Leone?"
Najenda hurried to help her up and check her condition.
"I-I'm fine."
Leone wiped the sweat from her face and said weakly, "I'm just a little drained."
With Najenda's support, she sat down in a chair.
Najenda turned her head, a grave look flashing through her eyes.
"Akame, could you tell us who this gentleman is?"
Her instincts told her something.
Their relationship was anything but simple.
Clearly, Lind held absolute authority.
Akame fell silent for a moment before saying, "As you heard, he is my master."
"Huh?"
Leone asked, dumbfounded, "Isn't that just some kinky thing between you two..."
"No. He is someone I must serve."
The moment those words left her mouth...
Leone and Najenda exchanged glances, both wanting to speak but holding back.
They could both see the disbelief in the other's eyes.
Both knew perfectly well how strong-willed Akame was.
And now she was willingly serving this man?
Leone asked anxiously, "Is this man forcing you? Tell us, and we'll figure something out together."
"That's right."
Najenda's expression turned resolute. "Even if we're no match for him, we absolutely won't let you suffer this humiliation."
Lind: "..."
Did he really look that much like a villain?
He was perfectly nice to pretty girls, wasn't he?
Akame shook her head. "I became Master's Familiar of my own free will."
"Familiar?"
Najenda asked in confusion, "What does that mean?"
"Someone who serves a Demon."
Lind smiled and said, "To put it simply, Akame is a Demon now, too."
"Huh?"
Leone and Najenda were bewildered, unable to wrap their heads around it.
Only after a moment did Leone say reproachfully, "Akame, this is all a joke, right?"
"You and this gentleman are working together to fool us, aren't you?"
"I never imagined you'd learn to joke around."
Akame did not answer. She merely sighed.
Whoosh!
A pair of black wings instantly burst from her body.
Whoosh, whoosh!
Her wings beat, and an eerie presence filled the room.
Leone's and Najenda's pupils contracted. They were utterly dumbstruck.
A Demon?
She really was a Demon.
Looking at the painfully striking Demon wings, Leone and Najenda found their minds completely blank.
A long while passed.
Only then did Najenda come to her senses. Looking at Akame, she asked, "Could you explain in detail what exactly happened?"
"That's right."
Leone nodded emphatically. "Start from the beginning, and don't leave out a single detail."
Their companion had gone out hunting.
Meanwhile, Leone had been drinking and singing.
And then Akame had become a Demon.
This turn of events was so unbelievable that she simply could not accept it.
"All right."
Akame gathered her thoughts and began explaining.
An unknown amount of time passed.
The room fell silent.
Leone gulped down some liquor and sighed. "It's really hard to imagine something like this actually happening."
"Even Esdeath has become a Demon?"
Najenda asked hesitantly, "So the person rumored to have replaced Minister Honest was you?"
"That's right."
Lind blinked. "Do you have any questions?"
"No. It's just a lot to take in."
Najenda's gaze grew complicated.
A Demon had taken control of the Empire.
What were they supposed to do now?
He was simply too powerful.
Had overthrowing the Empire truly become nothing more than a dream?
Who could have imagined it?
In just a single day...
Her dream had been shattered.
"By the way, how about you two become my Familiars as well?"
"Hm?"
Leone and Najenda both froze.
Neither had expected this.
They had never imagined they would hear such an offer.
Chapter 35: Everything to change this country
Najenda hesitated, but still asked, "Mr. Lind, may I ask why you chose us to become your Familiars?"
Whatever happened, there were many things she needed to understand before making any decision.
Leone chimed in, "Exactly. Tell me something I'd like to hear, like how exceptionally talented I am."
"Your potential is certainly part of it."
Lind said with a perfectly straight face, "But the most important reason is that you're both pretty girls."
There was not a word of falsehood in that.
If they were ugly, he wouldn't be able to bring himself to bite them.
Najenda: "..."
Leone: "..."
Akame, meanwhile, sank into thought.
Uh...
She thought of Esdeath, Kurome, and Seryu.
That really did seem to be the case.
Akame murmured to herself, "So you made me your Familiar because I'm pretty."
"Mr. Lind, you really are quite honest about your desires."
Najenda sighed. "Should I say, that's only to be expected of a Demon?"
Despite her words, a thoughtful look flashed through her eyes.
Her instincts told her something.
Lind was not lying.
