Background / History
Lind is a transmigrator living his second life. Born as a human–devil hybrid, he was found on a battlefield as an infant and adopted by the Lucifugus family, becoming Grayfia’s adoptive younger brother. He recovered his previous-life memories only a few days before the story begins 1.
His restored memories help him recognize that his world combines multiple anime settings. Familiar locations and records of devils, angels, cursed spirits, exorcists, yokai, Taimanin, and heretic gods convince him that Grayfia’s protection alone cannot guarantee his safety. He consequently pursues strength of his own 1.
Appearance
- General appearance: Esdeath considers him handsome 22.
- Eyes: Black in his ordinary state 42.
- Wings: Can reveal black wings as proof of his demonic identity 20.
- Blood: Becomes pale gold after his awakening and produces glowing contract markings during reincarnation rituals 2.
- Transformed appearance: Progenitor Devil Transformation covers his upper body in strange black markings. His sclerae turn black, while his irises become gold around small black pupils 49.
Personality
Lind’s ambition begins with a desire for security and independence. He refuses to rely entirely on Grayfia, trains until his mana is exhausted, and later treats servant recruitment, unfamiliar worlds, and supernatural weapons as opportunities to become stronger. Despite his rapid advancement, he grows impatient when his servants level faster than he does 1 2 20 23.
He is flirtatious, possessive, and unusually frank about his desires. He teases Grayfia and Shiho, openly admits that attractiveness influences his recruitment choices, and instructs Najenda to recruit only beautiful young women into Night Raid. Rivalries among his servants often amuse him, although he intervenes when they become openly confrontational 1 8 36 39 41.
His care for companions coexists with coercive behavior. He cooks for Shiho, shelters her while she lacks magical control, and gives Najenda a route toward political reform. However, he also forces Seryu and hostile fallen angels into contracts, welcomes the bond’s punishment of hostile intent, and uses submission as a condition for relief 6 30 31 37 46.
Toward opponents, Lind is ruthless and pragmatic. He destroys the Black Organization’s leadership, massacres an army for experience, and kills Donaseek after exploiting the wording of a promise to spare him. His political decisions are similarly practical: after taking the Empire, he temporarily retains its administrators rather than destabilizing the government with an immediate purge 19 24 26 42.
Abilities & Skills
Devil Contract
Lind’s central ability reincarnates suitable individuals as devils and binds them to his household. It uses his blood rather than Devil Pieces 2.
- Recruitment: Works across races, including humans and fallen angels, provided the subject has sufficient aptitude to withstand the transformation 2 46.
- Detection: Flickers when a potential servant is nearby 2 3.
- Capacity: Has no numerical limit on servants 3.
- Empowerment: Grants leveling panels, removes growth bottlenecks, and may awaken aptitude-based skills 2 3 37.
- Starting strength: Lind observes that several ordinary-human recruits emerge at Level 9, the limit of a Low-Class Devil 16.
- Power feedback: Recruitment and servants’ subsequent advancement increase his strength; their special skills also appear among his own abilities 3 8 12 23.
- Forced contracts: Seryu’s reincarnation proves that the subject’s consent is not required 30.
- Enforcement: Malicious intent toward the master triggers escalating punishment affecting both body and soul, potentially becoming fatal 31.
Demon Summoning and Interworld Travel
Demon Summoning distributes contracts across worlds. When someone answers a contract and summons him, Lind can cross into that world 2 20.
- Esdeath’s Demon Contract Book provides his first documented journey to another world 20.
- He later anchors a teleportation circle to the summoning contract, allowing servants to travel between worlds with his permission 41.
- On returning home, he observes that time passed more slowly in his main world than in the Akame ga Kill world 41.
Progenitor Devil Transformation
This authority temporarily releases part of the power contained in Lind’s bloodline 2.
- Turns his magic pitch-black and produces enough pressure to stop and shatter Ddraig’s magical attack 49.
- Lets him erase Ddraig’s inferno and deploy a magic circle capable of threatening the dragon’s soul 49 50.
- Causes severe exhaustion and weakness extending into his soul, even after brief use. Lind therefore reserves it as a trump card 50.
Infinite Magic Power
Inherited through Grayfia, this skill instantly restores consumed magic power 3.
- Removes ordinary mana attrition as a combat concern 3.
- Supports sustained firepower when combined with Magic Heart and Devil’s Gun 13 49.
- Does not prevent the deeper exhaustion caused by Progenitor Devil Transformation 50.
Magic Heart and Spellcasting
Magic Heart, inherited through Shiho, allows exceptionally rapid mastery of magic 8 12.
- Lind seeks access to Super-Tier Magic through Shiho’s instruction by Rias, expecting to benefit himself 9.
- His demonstrated spells include destructive beams, flames, lightning, teleportation circles, and power-sealing restraints 4 6 13 22 46.
- A Lightning Strike destroys an entire mountain and leaves an abyss in its place 22.
Magic Gunner and Devil’s Gun
Inherited through Akemi, Magic Gunner provides instinctive firearms knowledge. Devil’s Gun converts magic into ammunition 12 13.
- Can change weapon forms, including a handgun and revolver 12 13.
- Firing speed increases with proficiency in the magic being used; different forms enhance ammunition differently 12.
- Kills Budo with a single magical shot 26.
- Infinite Lightning: Unleashes an enormous lightning barrage against Ddraig 48.
Absolute Zero and Slash
Absolute Zero is inherited from Esdeath, while Slash is acquired through Akame 23 34 39.
- Absolute Zero: Grants mastery over ice; Lind uses it to annihilate the northern foreign army and freeze Ddraig’s fiery inner world 24 49.
- Slash: Represents comprehension of the ultimate essence of swordsmanship, with a description claiming that nothing lies beyond a single slash 34.
- Absolute Zero: Slash: Lind’s named attack against Ddraig. It fails to decisively injure the dragon before Lind transforms 49.
Demon Mask
Inherited from Vermouth, Demon Mask perfectly reproduces another person’s appearance, voice, and aura 16.
- Can also reproduce techniques, as demonstrated when Vermouth copies Shiho’s Wind Blade Magic 17.
- A copied technique’s output depends on the user’s own strength 17.
- Vermouth cannot copy Lind; his own use of that restriction is not tested 17.
Corpse Manipulation and Demon Beast Familiar
These skills are acquired through Kurome and Seryu respectively 28 30 39.
- Corpse Manipulation: Modifies corpses with the user’s power and controls them. Lind considers combining it with Infinite Magic Power to create a one-man army, but does not demonstrate that army in the supplied chapters 28.
- Demon Beast Familiar: Constructs and modifies a magical creature. Its quality depends on the user’s understanding of the chosen model, and only one familiar can be created 30.
Super-Speed Regeneration and King of Beasts
Both become part of Lind’s skill set after recruiting Najenda and Leone 37 39.
- Super-Speed Regeneration: Allows flesh to regenerate as long as one drop of blood remains 37.
- King of Beasts: Incorporates the strengths of beasts and magical beasts into the user’s body 39.
- Lind confirms that King of Beasts can increase physical strength without changing his level; it also contributes to his growth after defeating Ddraig 40 50.
Light Resistance and Fallen-Angel Powers
Lind discovers that holy light no longer harms him after his progenitor bloodline awakens 10.
- Freed’s light sword fails to injure him, and he later stops Donaseek’s Light Spear with one finger 10 42.
- Reincarnating Raynare, Mittelt, and Kalawarner grants him angelic light power and Fallen Angel Form 46.
- Fallen Angel Form changes a demonic body into a fallen-angel form and permits use of fallen-angel bloodline powers 46.
Physical Combat and Magical Pressure
- Defeats Freed with one punch and kills Shura before the latter can activate his teleportation weapon 10 30.
- Outpaces Esdeath, shatters her enormous hailstone by force, and deliberately limits his blows to avoid killing her 21.
- Uses an invisible defensive force to stop Esdeath’s saber 21.
- Immobilizes Vermouth and Leone through overwhelming supernatural pressure 14 35 36.
Servant Empowerment
Lind’s bodily fluids have power-enhancing properties for devils, even without his transformation 2.
- Mana replenishment through intimate contact restores a partner’s depleted magic 1 7.
- Intimacy with him can accelerate servants’ growth, producing breakthroughs in Shiho, Esdeath, and others 7 17 23 50.
- He suspects that his own advancement strengthens this effect, but has not confirmed the explanation 23.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Devil’s Gun — A magically generated firearm with interchangeable forms; used for magical ammunition and Infinite Lightning 12 13 26 48.
- Dimensional Matrix / Dimension Fortress: Shangri-La — Shura’s space-manipulating Imperial Arm, seized after his death. Lind successfully establishes control over it the next morning 29 30 31.
- Boosted Gear / Red Dragon Emperor’s Gauntlet — A Longinus extracted from Issei by Raynare. After defeating and eliminating Ddraig’s soul, Lind merges it into his body and gains complete authority over it 48 50.
- Basic magic textbook — Supplies Shiho’s initial spell instruction before he seeks more advanced training from Rias’s household 7 9.
Relationships
- Grayfia Lucifugus — Adoptive older sister, first servant, and protective adviser. Her reincarnation gives him his first major power breakthrough; she urges him to conceal his unlimited recruitment ability 1 2 3.
- Rias Gremory — Childhood friend who arranges his enrollment and helps train his servants. She eventually acknowledges her jealousy and romantic feelings 2 8 9 19 20.
- Shiho Miyano — Servant rescued from cursed spirits. Lind helps her oppose the Black Organization, teaches her magic, and becomes her intimate partner; she remains willing to challenge his teasing and behavior 4 5 6 7 8.
- Akemi Miyano — Shiho’s older sister and a servant whose skills give Lind access to Magic Gunner and Devil’s Gun. She later handles the agency’s opening-day office work and resents being excluded from the others’ advancement 12 50.
- Vermouth — Initially an opponent, then a cooperative recruit and servant. She supplies intelligence, takes control of the Black Organization’s assets, and arranges the exorcism agency 14 16 19.
- Akeno Himejima — Rias’s servant and the instructor assigned to assess and train Shiho 8 9.
- Esdeath — Summons Lind seeking a worthy opponent. After her defeat, she willingly becomes his servant and intimate partner, then helps him seize the Empire 20 21 22 25 26.
- Kurome — Willingly joins his household to gain strength and avoid losing Akame again. Becomes a devoted subordinate and helps enforce his orders 28 29 30.
- Seryu Ubiquitous — Enemy forcibly reincarnated as an experimental subject. Her continued hostility exposes the contract’s automatic punishment mechanism 30 31.
- Akame — Voluntary servant who first secures his promise not to harm Night Raid. Introduces him to her comrades while remaining concerned for their safety 34 36.
- Najenda — Servant and prospective reform administrator. Lind offers support for her vision of the country but refuses cooperation with the Revolutionary Army 37.
- Leone — Initially attacks Lind and is overwhelmed. Later becomes his servant, granting him King of Beasts, and competes with Esdeath for his attention 35 36 39.
- Asia Argento — Rescued from Donaseek and sheltered at Lind’s villa. Her interpretation of his recruitment demand as a proposal creates a misunderstanding 41 42.
- Raynare, Mittelt, and Kalawarner — Hostile fallen angels forcibly reincarnated into his household. Raynare subsequently performs the Sacred Gear extraction he requires 46 47 48.
- Issei Hyoudou — Captured for his Sacred Gear and killed when Lind orders its extraction 10 48.
- Ddraig — Resists Lind’s claim to the Boosted Gear. Eventually recognizes his strength, but Lind rejects reconciliation and destroys his dragon soul 48 49 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Awakening and Arrival in Kuoh
After recovering his memories, Lind awakens his system and makes Grayfia his first servant. Her reincarnation immediately raises him to Satan-class strength. He then enters the human world through an official passage arranged by Grayfia and settles in Kuoh 1 2 3.
Lind rescues Shiho from cursed spirits, recruits her, and helps destroy a Black Organization research facility. While adapting to life at Kuoh Academy, he uses Rias’s household to supplement Shiho’s magical and combat training 4 5 6 8 9.
Black Organization and Exorcism Agency
Lind recruits Akemi and Vermouth, using Vermouth’s access to arrange a confrontation with the Black Organization’s leadership. He destroys Karasuma’s summoned curse spirit, kills the executives apart from Rum, and has Vermouth secure the organization’s money and legitimate assets 12 16 18 19.
He directs part of the proceeds toward an exorcism agency. Although its work involves supernatural threats, his stated purpose is practical combat experience for his servants rather than charity 19.
Esdeath’s World and the Imperial Takeover
Esdeath summons Lind through a Demon Contract Book. He defeats her, demonstrates mountain-destroying magic, and reincarnates her into his household. Her unfamiliarity with techniques he remembers reveals that he has arrived earlier than the expected story timeline 20 21 22.
Lind annihilates the northern foreign army for experience, then turns his attention to the Empire. Esdeath kills Honest and hostile guards, while Lind kills Budo. With resistance broken, the officials abandon the young Emperor and submit; Lind retains the administration temporarily while planning gradual replacements 24 25 26.
He expands his household through Kurome, Seryu, Akame, Najenda, and Leone. Najenda receives an offer to pursue reforms under his authority, while Night Raid is retained as a recruitment organization with restrictions reflecting his personal preferences 28 30 34 37 39 41.
Return and Acquisition of the Boosted Gear
Back in his main world, Lind establishes controlled interworld travel for his servants and rescues Asia. Donaseek’s interrogation points him toward Raynare, whose group he later restrains and forcibly reincarnates 41 42 46.
Lind orders Raynare to extract Issei’s Boosted Gear, killing its original host. Ddraig’s resistance leads to a battle inside the Gear, where Lind’s normal attacks prove insufficient and he resorts to Progenitor Devil Transformation. He destroys Ddraig, gains complete control of the Longinus, and reaches Level 60 48 49 50.
Despite the transformation’s exhausting cost, Lind proceeds with the exorcism agency’s opening and continues advancing his servants 50.
