The couple had previously spoken of demonizing the world, turning the entire world into a Demon Realm. Not only would there be no need to ascend elsewhere, but people from Otherworlds would eventually ascend here instead.
Neither Shibi Old Man nor Fire-Spirit Divine Lord was interested in this, and they thought the couple had little chance of succeeding.
To turn this world into a Demon Realm, they would have to turn every living being in it into a demon.
How would they turn them into demons? Kill them all once... first turn them into ghosts, then into demons!
This amounted to stripping every living being of material form, then using the blood they shed to create a vast blood sea and strip the entire world of material form.
From their perspective, this would "sublimate" the entire world, transforming it from a Human Realm into a Heavenly Realm, so that it would no longer be affected by the Dharma Decline Age.
Spiritual energy underwent depletion, revival, eruption, and decline, forming tides of spiritual energy, both great and small.
At the most extreme point of depletion, even the Heavenly Realm would run dry, and all the gods and Buddhas of the heavens would fall. But that would mark the beginning of the entire world's rebirth.
Most of the time, spiritual energy depletion was confined to the divide between the turbid human world and the clear heavens. Sometimes the "depletion line" would rise into part of the Heavenly Realm; sometimes it would not even encompass the entire human world. Even in the Dharma Decline Age, some spiritual energy could remain in the human world, amounting to a downgrade from "high martial power"
