The voice was cool and clear. To Zhang Yuan and Chen Qinkuai, it felt like a great block of ice had suddenly slammed into their heads.
They froze for an instant, then turned in unison toward the voice.
Chen Xinqiao still wore the same outfit from two years ago, a Dharma Robe Xiao Shi had specially commissioned for her. At Chen Xinqiao's request, however, its design was not particularly lavish, but rather plain.
Yet now, standing alone before the curtain of rain beneath the eaves, Chen Xinqiao looked calm and transcendent, like an immortal.
"X-Xinqiao?" Chen Qinkuai said in disbelief.
"Father, what's wrong? Why aren't you coming inside? It's cold out. Whatever you have to say, let's talk indoors." Chen Xinqiao murmured an acknowledgment and answered as though she had not noticed the tear stains at the corners of her father's eyes.
Still dazed, Chen Qinkuai pushed open the gates of the Chen Residence.
He had only just asked whether something had happened to Chen Xinqiao, and in the next moment, she had appeared before him. He could hardly believe it.
But who else could that cool, indifferent voice belong to, if not his daughter Chen Xinqiao?
Zhang Yuan looked stunned. He sent his divine sense into the Dao Domain within his body and discovered that Chen Xinqiao's remains, which he had kept there all this time, had vanished at some unknown point, as though they had never been placed inside it at all.
Li Huixi really had brought Chen Xinqiao back...
"Immortal Master, it's been so long. I've missed you dearly." Chen Xinqiao raised her eyes to Zhang Yuan and spoke softly, a trace of warmth in her cool voice.
Coming back to his senses, Zhang Yuan could not help stepping forward and reaching out to rub Chen Xinqiao's head.
