Background / History

Clear Void True Person’s Legacy

Chen Xinqiao originates from a remnant soul of Clear Void True Person, an Outer Dao Golden Core cultivator whose attempt to secure Heavenly Well Radiance ended in death roughly a thousand years earlier. Her predecessor belonged to the Azure Nether Immortal Sect and was close to Qiming, the Jun Tian Night-Cutting Goddess 180 218 432 434.

Clear Void True Person left a strand of true nature within Heavenly Well Radiance, giving the position a continuing connection to Xinqiao and to practitioners of her exclusive body-refining scripture. She also concealed cultivation resources in secret realms to prepare for a future Return to Position 432 439.

Xinqiao does not regard these inherited memories or preparations as making her the original Clear Void True Person. After attaining True Lord status, she explicitly maintains that she remains herself 433.

Life in Liu Family Village

Xinqiao grew up in an impoverished branch of the Chen family. Her survival depended on silver left by her mother and on Chen Qinkuai gathering herbs in the mountains. Villagers avoided her, and relatives mistook her habitual silence for muteness 43 50.

Her aunt, Liu Yulan, and grandmother attempted to sell her to a household in Dragon Creek City for fifty taels. Chen Qinkuai refused, but the relatives planned to seize her while he was away. Zhang Yuan, temporarily staying in their home, intervened when they returned with men to force entry 42 43 44 45.

Xinqiao asked Zhang Yuan to accept her as his disciple. He recognized her immortal spiritual root and reincarnated origin but declined because their cultivation paths differed and his own apprenticeship remained unfinished. She accepted the refusal without pestering him 43 44.

Cultivation and the Wang Household

Although Zhang Yuan would not formally teach her, he allowed Xinqiao to study the Primordial Unity One-Qi Body-Refining Treasure Scripture. She read his cultivation books aloud, helping him learn the written language, and promised to keep both texts secret 46.

When the Wang Household pursued her, Xinqiao fought back rather than fleeing: she attacked Wang Zhenfeng from behind with a kitchen knife and stopped when Zhang Yuan called her back. She also wanted her abusive relatives killed; her father objected to killing kin. By a later visit home, she had personally killed the Liu household’s elderly woman, Liu Yulan, and several young men from that household 50 126.

The family relocated to its ancestral residence in Dragon Creek City and sought protection through an old Cui Clan token. Zhang Yuan’s investigation eventually revealed that Wang Dingzhong needed Xinqiao for a Truth-Seeking Method aimed at the Rain Master Coin’s metal position 53 54 61.

At Chen Qinkuai’s request, Zhang Yuan took Xinqiao with him aboard the Cui Clan Tower Ship. He later entrusted her to Cui Yuanxi on Life Continent Isle, where she received broad access to the Cui Residence and its books rather than being confined 63 85 103.

Death and Farewell Letter

The True Lords used Zhang Yuan’s Dust-Fate Pass, one of his Celestial Person trials, to construct a killing trap around Xinqiao. Their aim was to eliminate Clear Void True Person’s reincarnated remnant. Rather than force Zhang Yuan into choosing between his own death and killing her, Xinqiao took her own life 129 130 180.

Zhang Yuan found her body in the Chen family’s old village house. Her vitality was extinguished and her soul had dispersed, leaving no ordinary route to reincarnation. He preserved her remains and concealed her death from Chen Qinkuai 130.

Her farewell letter contained a hidden message for Qiming, revealed when infused with spiritual qi. It explained that the furnace and Heavenly Radiance scripture required her body-refining method to draw out Heavenly Well Radiance. In exchange for the three components, she requested a Life-Bound Flying Sword for Zhang Yuan. Because he held the missing method, the arrangement gave him leverage over the Ya East Cui True Lord 218.

Resurrection and Reunion

Li Huixi offered to resurrect Xinqiao if Zhang Yuan returned to the Eastern Bian Li Clan and fulfilled his marriage agreement. Zhang Yuan ultimately accepted, but Li Huixi delayed the resurrection until the Great Era, warning that an earlier revival would only lead to another death 188 377 379.

Xinqiao revived at Sun-Moon Cliff and immediately asked what Zhang Yuan had given Li Huixi in exchange. From her perspective, she had arrived after the porcelain shard pierced her neck but before her soul perished 413.

She returned to Dragon Creek City after a two-year absence, interrupting her father’s fears that she had died. Zhang Yuan confirmed her resurrection when he discovered that her preserved remains had vanished from his Dao domain. To spare Chen Qinkuai distress, she explained her absence as a prolonged investigation of a secret realm; Zhang Yuan supported the story 426 427.

Return to Position

When Xinqiao sought Heavenly Well Radiance, hostile True Lords again tried to stop her. Qiming held them back while Clear Void True Person’s preserved true nature and prepared resources enabled Xinqiao to form a perfected Dao domain and attain Golden Core True Lord status 432.

Xinqiao then restored Qiming’s sword with Heavenly Radiance and asked her to strike Deng Qiuzhen, the True Lord of Ten Thousand Cycles of Balance, for his role in the earlier wrongs against her. After Deng fled, the other Lords abandoned their attack and offered congratulations. Xinqiao’s immediate priority was to return home, where her father was waiting 433.

Following her ascension, she shielded Zhang Yuan from Qin Jieyu’s teleportation charm and offered to erase any karma he had incurred through her resurrection. His refusal to explain its cost prompted her to resolve to investigate his connection to Li Huixi and sever it if necessary. She later continued seeking Qiming’s assistance on Zhang Yuan’s behalf 434 435 685.

Appearance

Xinqiao is initially pale, physically frail, and thinly dressed in winter. Her later appearance remains small and slender, with a pretty, frost-cold face and a habitually serene expression 42 45 130 432.

  • Hair: Silky hair that Zhang Yuan frequently ruffles or strokes 50 63 427.
  • Expression: Usually impassive, even when nervous, disappointed, or emotionally moved 44 45 427.
  • Clothing: Prefers a simple design for the magic robe Xiao Shi commissions for her; she returns wearing the same robe after her resurrection 427.
  • Bearing: Appears detached from the mortal world when standing beneath the eaves during her homecoming 427.

Personality

Xinqiao speaks little and rarely shows emotion, but her reserve is not an absence of feeling. Zhang Yuan’s status labels reveal nervousness and disappointment beneath her unchanged expression. Cui Yuanxi describes her cold manner as protective coloring, while Chen Qinkuai recognizes that she cares deeply about her family 44 180 426.

She is restrained without being passive. She asks directly for cultivation opportunities, accepts refusal, and seeks help when threatened. During the Wang Household crisis, she follows Zhang Yuan’s instructions and cultivates quietly rather than recklessly searching for her father 43 44 59 61.

Her loyalty to Zhang Yuan is both self-sacrificing and strategic. She dies rather than make him kill her, leaves a contingency to secure him a valuable treasure, and later worries more about the hidden price of her resurrection than about her restored status 180 218 434 435.

Xinqiao is also unforgiving toward deliberate abuse. She attacks Wang Zhenfeng without hesitation, eventually kills the relatives who tried to sell her, and uses her new authority to demand retribution against Deng Qiuzhen 50 126 433.

  • Xiao Yuanjun — Zhang Yuan’s master. Xinqiao respectfully addresses her as a senior despite possessing higher cultivation when they first meet, and compensates her with Xin metal 439.
  • Cui Zhaowei — Their reunion beside Zhang Yuan produces a silent, tense exchange. Xinqiao later notices that Zhaowei’s practical reasons for accompanying him also conceal a desire to stay close 427 438.
