Ch. 101The transformation of "Li Thunder"
Chapter Summary: “The Transformation of ‘Li Thunder’”
Key plot points and events
- As Li Fuchan lies half-destroyed by the turbid water, a gardenia blooms on his shoulder. Its strange power restores his body and stops Qu Chengong’s sword essence. It also weakens Gu Tong’s talisman until it falls into the water.
- The flower’s protection recalls a promise made by the Wisdom King’s evil body: Li Fuchan must visit the Porcelain Womb Blessed Land every thirty years. This promise ensures he cannot die before fulfilling that duty.
- Li Fuchan realizes his earlier plan has partly worked. By using a false body, the Walking Flood Dragon Register Qi, and Slay the Thief against Changze, he created an opening to disrupt Three Nothing’s influence and the constraints of the Fu Ying Contemplation and Perception Sutra.
- Rather than accept the escape the gardenia has given him, Li Fuchan uses it to gamble on transforming Li Thunder. He believes its “bullying evil, uphold righteousness” principle contains a rough, forceful side—not merely conventional uprightness—that can serve as the opening for transformation.
- Li Thunder manifests anew. The final ray of Contrary Thunder, previously blocked by Gu Tong’s talisman, enters Li Fuchan’s Great Gate Mansion. Gu Tong urges Quan Yong to kill him, but Quan Yong hesitates, unable to trust his weapon or overcome the gardenia’s protection.
Character developments
- Li Fuchan shifts from apparent victim to deliberate gambler. He shows that his apparent death and peril were partly components of a plan, and he develops a bold new interpretation of Li Thunder’s nature.
- Three Nothing is badly shaken when Li Fuchan breaks free of its influence and appears to be transforming Li Thunder—something it had insisted was impossible.
- Quan Yong becomes uncertain and cautious. He suspects Contrary Thunder may have turned against his intention to kill Li Fuchan, making his own Spirit Artifact dangerous or unreliable.
- Gu Tong recognizes the immediate threat and reacts with alarm, but his talisman has already been neutralized.
Character interactions
- Li Fuchan’s survival overturns the attackers’ expectations: the gardenia blocks Qu Chengong’s strike and defeats Gu Tong’s talisman.
- Three Nothing confronts the apparent contradiction of Li Thunder having a “variable,” while Li Fuchan’s actions expose the limits of its certainty.
- Gu Tong calls on Quan Yong to strike, but Quan Yong’s hesitation leaves Li Fuchan temporarily unchallenged.
Significant themes
- Transformation through contradiction: Li Fuchan finds potential in Li Thunder’s seemingly ignoble element of “bullying,” suggesting that change can emerge from qualities that appear incompatible with an ideal.
- Fate, vows, and survival: The Wisdom King’s promise binds Li Fuchan to a future duty and unexpectedly saves him.
- Agency under constraint: Even while trapped by enemies, karma, and divine powers, Li Fuchan turns each restriction into an opportunity.
- Uncertainty and reversal: The power intended to kill him may instead aid him, and the confident Three Nothing is forced to question what is possible.
