Background / History
The Sleeping Goddess
Yang Kong obtained a crystal coffin containing the sleeping Mu Chiyu and fell in love with her at first sight. The Slaughter Divine Law came from her, and he spent decades gathering spirit stones to awaken her 34 42. Mu Chiyu later explains that she had deliberately separated the law from her body to attract someone capable of reviving her 43.
He became a disciple of Divine Sun Sect Master Zeng Kuxuan. His sect affiliation initially protected him from Luo Wutian, who considered the Divine Sun Sect too powerful for Blood Cliff City to offend 33 38.
Blood Cliff City’s Undefeated Fighter
Yang arrived in Blood Cliff City a year before his introduction and fought his way up from the arena’s lowest tier. He won 160 consecutive matches, repeatedly betting his entire fortune on himself and reinvesting both his stake and winnings 33.
With forty million Supreme-Grade Spirit Stones saved, he planned to leave after earning a hundred million and promised to take Zi He with him. When declining odds reduced his potential winnings, he chose to fight above his realm. Luo Wutian arranged for him to face Hu Yuan, but Yang killed the demon and secured his 161st consecutive victory 33 34.
Afterward, Yang demanded two hundred million spirit stones as his price for leaving. Su Linxian instead offered unlimited spirit stones for the Slaughter Divine Law. Yang refused because surrendering it would destroy the foundation of his power 34.
The Coerced Wager and Collapse
Su Linxian forced Yang to accept a same-realm duel, staking the Slaughter Divine Law against a promised reward. Yang negotiated the reward up to one billion Supreme-Grade Spirit Stones, hoping to secure enough resources to revive Mu Chiyu 35.
His opponent was Li Junhua, a third-level Hunyuan cultivator who retained the experience of a former peak Emperor. Li overwhelmed Yang, then followed Su’s instruction to make the defeat appear narrowly avoidable 35 36 37 38.
Yang lost his savings but insisted on rematches. He borrowed against his Divine Sun Sect affiliation and persuaded Zi He to lend him the ten million spirit stones she had saved for her freedom. Su extracted the Slaughter Divine Law before the next fight, yet Yang continued gambling despite his weakened cultivation and mounting injuries. Zi He eventually left, demanding repayment 38.
When Li revealed that he could have crushed Yang from the beginning, Yang realized the apparent close contest had been staged. His Dao heart shattered. He killed a debt-collecting guard and attacked people indiscriminately throughout Blood Cliff City, prompting Luo Wutian to pursue him 39.
Mu Chiyu’s Awakening and Return
During his ten-year disappearance, Yang entered the Primordial Immortal Realm and obtained primordial immortal essence. He used it to awaken Mu Chiyu, who promised to intervene on his behalf three times. Her awakening increased his Heavenly Destiny Value by one million and caused the system to identify him as a protagonist of the era 40 41.
Yang returned while the city lords and the Hong Family were confronting the Divine Sun Sect over his debts and killings. He declared that he would answer for his actions alone, then invoked Mu Chiyu’s assistance. Her first intervention destroyed the Hong Family Emperor’s physical body 41.
Su Linxian retaliated against the Divine Sun Sect, destroying its leaders’ bodies while sparing their souls. Zeng Kuxuan publicly rejected Yang as his disciple. Yang then used Mu Chiyu’s second promised intervention to attack Su, but she was defeated and imprisoned 41 42.
Saint Sun Ancestor restrained Yang and offered an incomplete Taiyi Void Beast origin to secure his survival. Su accepted and required the sect to restore the Hong Family Emperor’s body and provide compensation. Yang nevertheless threatened revenge; Su’s silent glance terrified him into wetting himself and losing his Heaven-Destined Protagonist status 42.
Appearance
- Face: Stern and youthful 33 34.
- Clothing: Blood-soaked black fighting clothes during his arena introduction; long black robes in his fight against Hu Yuan 33 34.
- Aura: Dense blood baleful intent, nearly tangible at his introduction and reminiscent of a god of slaughter during his confrontation with Li Junhua 33 37.
Personality
Yang initially presents himself as composed, proud, and certain of his strength. His undefeated record encourages him to stake everything on his own victories, dismiss warnings about Luo Wutian, and claim invincibility within his realm 33 34.
His pursuit of wealth is tied to his love for Mu Chiyu, but his financial goals keep expanding. He is also inattentive to Zi He’s feelings, failing to notice her withdrawal after he speaks about reviving another woman 34 35.
Defeat turns his confidence into an obsessive need to recover his losses. He continues fighting after losing his divine law and cultivation, spends Zi He’s freedom fund, and eventually lashes out at bystanders when he discovers the contest was manipulated 38 39. His later attempt to take responsibility for the sect’s troubles coexists with continued demands for revenge against Su Linxian 41 42.
