Wen Ning wasted no time. He left Zhang Siyu and Lu Ming to mind the shop and followed the little cat demon outside.

The little cat demon was frantic the whole way, her two small, soft, Bugles-shaped ears flickering in and out of sight atop her head. Several times, she nearly took the wrong turn.

Wen Ning followed behind her. Seeing how distraught she was, he said little and simply quickened his pace.

Once they reached the hospital, the little cat demon made her way familiarly to the end of the corridor, stopped outside a ward, and peered around the doorframe.

Wen Ning followed her gaze.

There were no nurses or anyone else in the ward, just a young woman in her twenties lying in a bed by the window.

She wore a loose hospital gown and was so thin it barely looked as though there was anyone inside it. An IV catheter sat in the back of her hand, and her face was pale, almost bloodless.

A light-colored knitted cap covered the hair that had thinned from treatment. She was staring absently at the ceiling, her eyes holding the weary resignation of someone who had made peace with things.

The little cat demon glanced back at Wen Ning, her eyes still red, as though she had made up her mind.

The next moment, her body shrank. With a faint flicker of spiritual light, she turned into a little cream-orange cat right before Wen Ning's eyes.

Without hesitation, the little cat slipped through the half-open door and trotted toward the bed.

Hearing the movement, the young woman turned her head. The moment she spotted the little cat beside her bed, her pale face lit up.

"Mimi? What are you doing here?"

Her voice was weak, but she could not suppress
