Wen Ning recruited Feng Dema for the understaffed Misfortune Department and helped Lin Dagang overcome the grief and despair keeping him unconscious. After Lin Dagang woke and his family gained a chance to repay their debts, Wen Ning learned he would have to go to Mount Li to complete his merit.
Wen Ning obtained the Imperial Seal of China from Qin Shi Huang, helped Zhou Wan survive through Mimi’s sacrifice, and defeated Golden Toad after it preyed on a village’s greed. The arc ended with Zhang Siyu deciding to return to Dragon-Tiger Mountain to grow strong enough to stand beside Wen Ning.
Wen Ning completed his undercover mission, reunited Jin Big Tooth with the Heavenly Court, and helped Uncle Gu secure his inheritance for Gu Jianjun. After returning to the shop, Wen Ning welcomed Feng Dema, celebrated Gong Kai and Hu Jiumei’s wedding, and agreed to help Zhou Guangfu find the man who once fed him.
Wen Ning helped Zhou Guangfu reunite with Liu Nian before his death, then freed Fang Qingqin from a temple vow tied to her birth father and the Five-Power God. As Feng Dema grew closer to Fang Qingqin and Wen Ning advanced in cultivation, the group stopped Lin Feng from abducting a girl and went to the police station to give statements.
Wen Ning helped Lin Feng seek revenge for Lin Jin before persuading him to spare Zhao Qi and face punishment in the Underworld. After settling a confrontation with Daoist Wuji, Wen Ning took the amnesiac soldier Wang Lei through modern China, where he recovered memories of his death and his struggle over enlisting.
Wang Lei reunited with his younger brother in the afterlife, while Wen Ning attended Maoshan’s Dharma Assembly and entered the Demon-Suppressing Pagoda to reinforce its failing seals. After restoring the first two seals and defeating the casino’s monsters, Wen Ning reached the third floor and entered Spring Radiance Garden, where demons planned to prey on him.
