That night, the moon was bright and the stars were sparse.
Rustling sounds kept rising from the pitch-black forest.
Abandoned vehicles lay strewn across the ruined road.
A breeze swept through, carrying an air of ruin and desolation.
A soldier hid inside an abandoned vehicle, staring intently down the road through night-vision binoculars.
When he saw a vast, dark mass of Infected steadily approaching, he hurriedly pulled out his radio to notify his comrades. "Large group of Infected spotted. Repeat, large group of Infected spotted. Estimated arrival at Zone One in ten minutes. Preparing to withdraw."
Just as the soldier crawled out of the abandoned vehicle, the cold moonlight suddenly dimmed.
He looked up and saw that a huge, pitch-black mass had suddenly blotted out the scattered stars.
The soldier hastily looked higher and discovered an enormous swarm of Flying Creatures overhead. They loomed like dark storm clouds, terrifying to behold.
His eyes widened, and he roared into his radio, "Large number of unidentified Flying Creatures spotted overhead! Repeat, large number of unidentified creatures overhead!"
After receiving the soldier's report, an officer nearby immediately ordered the troops deployed along the outer perimeter, "Watch the skies! Watch the skies! All personnel, stay alert! Fire at will!"
Clack, clack, clack!
Countless giant searchlights suddenly switched on throughout the Mountain Forest. Beams shot straight into the sky, lighting up the pitch-black night.
Under the giant searchlights, the vast swarm of Flying Creatures came into view.
They were jet-black, crow-like Flying Creatures, varying in size and shape. Their only shared feature was their blood-red eyes, like vampires lurking in the night.
Although the searchlights lit up the sky and gave the soldiers a clear view of their enemies, they also exposed their positions.
The vast swarm of Flying Creatures began diving toward the searchlights.
