Seeing Randall move, Pietro immediately struck back.
Godspeed Shave!
He vanished from his spot at an even greater speed, then tried the same trick again, hoping to circle behind Randall once more.
But Randall could sense his path with perfect clarity.
At that, Randall immediately changed course.
Before Pietro could react, Randall planted himself directly in his path and raised his fist.
At the same time, half of Randall's energy gathered in his raised right fist.
Pietro was horrified at the sight.
But he could not stop at all and barreled straight into it.
Boom! A dull crash rang out.
Fist met chest.
Pietro's chest visibly caved in, and he flew backward more than ten meters.
It was a devastating punch.
Interestingly enough, though, it was Pietro's own speed that did the most damage.
Speed was the strength of Pietro's Godspeed Shave.
But it was also his fatal weakness.
He was so fast that once he picked up speed, even he could not control it.
Power beyond one's control could instead become something an enemy could exploit.
And Pietro's current sorry state was the perfect illustration of that.
Pietro still had a solid foundation. Although badly injured, he remained conscious.
Lying on the ground, he lifted his head slightly and looked at Randall.
The sun was behind Randall, and against the light, he could not make out Randall's face.
But he felt he could imagine the expression Randall wore.
Mockery, contempt, provocation, smugness...
At any rate, if their positions were reversed, that was the expression he would have worn.
At that thought, Pietro could hold on no longer.
Pfft—
He spat out a mouthful of blood and chose to pass out.
Yesterday all over again.jpg
For a moment, the training ground fell silent.
Everyone stared wordlessly at the unconscious Pietro, feeling shocked, disbelieving, delighted, or indifferent.
After Randall's overwhelming upset victory over Pietro, the trainees' doubts about him vanished.
Their hostility, too, was buried deep in their hearts.
"Good! Very good!"
Zephyr spoke with obvious delight.
"So, does anyone else want to fight him?"
Everyone wilted at once.
Yeah, right. Pietro was still lying over there.
How out of their minds would they have to be to fight this beast?
Aside from the three monsters ranked at the top, even those ranked above Pietro could not beat him so easily!
Forget it!
They were his seniors!
They would not stoop to squabbling with a newcomer!
Seeing their reactions, Zephyr shook his head inwardly.
It looked like this should have taken their arrogance down a few notches.
"Good! Then, starting today, Randall is one of you!"
Everyone lowered their heads in silence.
Randall returned to his previous spot and stood in place.
Seeing that Randall showed neither arrogance nor impatience after defeating Pietro, Zephyr nodded in satisfaction.
Then he continued:
"I have an announcement.
There will be an assessment in one month.
You will learn what it involves when the time comes.
For now, let me tell you about the reward.
I will personally train the top three in this assessment for three months!"
At those words, everyone grew excited.
Even the icy Millers had a spark of eagerness in his eyes.
Why had they wanted to enter the Elite Camp?
Wasn't it because of Zephyr?
But just who was Zephyr?
Although he oversaw the Elite Camp, his students handled the day-to-day instruction.
The occasions when Zephyr personally taught them could be counted on one hand.
And now, a chance to receive his personal instruction lay right before them.
How could they not be excited?
Everyone steeled themselves.
They would train twice as hard this month.
As long as training did not kill them, they would train themselves half to death!
Zephyr was very pleased with their reaction.
He continued:
"All right, get started with your training!
Oh, right. Randall, you haven't learned the Six Powers yet, have you?
Come with me for a moment."
In an instant, everyone's gaze fixed on Randall.
He hadn't learned the Six Powers?
Then what was that Shave just now?
Could it be...?
They remembered that Randall had fought Pietro yesterday.
A terrifying thought surfaced in their minds.
Surely this kid hadn't learned Shave just from watching Pietro use it...
No way...
Even the quickest among them had taken several weeks to master Shave!
Ignoring their varied looks, Randall obediently followed Zephyr.
At the same time, anticipation rose within him.
He was currently lacking ranged attacks.
Tempest Kick and Finger Pistol from the Six Powers were both exactly what he needed.
With those, his abilities would be more well-rounded.
He had already made up his mind: he was not going to eat a devil fruit.
Instead, he would focus entirely on physical combat!
Although he coveted the many different powers devil fruits offered.
Those powers came at the cost of an absolute weakness.
He could not accept that.
Specializing in physical combat alone could still take him to the pinnacle of this world.
He raised his head and looked at Zephyr ahead of him.
Wasn't this man a living example?
A short while later, Randall followed Zephyr into an empty training ground.
Once they reached the center, Zephyr turned around and looked Randall straight in the eyes.
Randall had expected Zephyr to begin teaching right away, but instead, he heard him say:
"Randall, having you join the Marines and the Elite Camp was my decision.
Before I teach you the Six Powers, I want to ask what you think of justice."
As he spoke, Zephyr stared intently at Randall with eyes sharper than those of an eagle soaring through the sky, as though trying to see right through him.
Of course, the Marines would not simply allow someone with such an unclear background to join, let alone place him directly in the recruit camp.
Before this, Tsuru had already investigated Randall's past.
Yet the results had been completely blank.
There were no records of him whatsoever, as though he had appeared out of thin air.
That seemed suspicious, but the higher-ups considered it unimportant.
At the very least, it also established that Randall had no connection to pirates.
As such, there was nothing wrong with letting him join the Marines.
After all, Randall was still young.
More importantly, Zephyr trusted his own judgment.
Now, Zephyr was deliberately questioning Randall to make one final assessment of whether he was worth it.
Randall paused, caught off guard by Zephyr's sudden question.
It was not as though he was entirely unprepared.
But for someone who had transmigrated, a question like this was far too easy to answer.
In the end, however, Randall did not brush him off with platitudes. He expressed what he truly felt.
After a moment's thought, he said:
"Justice means eradicating all evil in this world.
As for what counts as evil, I'll judge that with my own eyes!"
