More than half an hour after the helicopter left, the wail of police sirens and the barking of Luxray, Arcanine, and Growlithe rang out. Within moments, the Research Base was tightly surrounded.
"Attention, everyone inside! You are surrounded! Surrender immediately and you may receive lenient treatment..." As one officer called into the research facility through a loudspeaker, some of the others were already poised for action.
Unfortunately, despite the officer calling out for quite some time, no response came from inside. Officer Jenny's brows drew tightly together, and she led the remaining fully armed officers in an assault on the Research Base.
Pinpointing their targets anywhere within the vast expanse of Vinyardes had been difficult enough, but the police were facing criminals equipped with advanced technology. The instant the officers stepped into the facility, the time bombs planted inside activated, leaving them entirely unaware. When they reached the innermost section of the base and found it deserted, they could not help feeling deflated, inwardly lamenting how cunning the criminals were to have sensed danger and fled in advance. However, when she saw the vast quantities of data flashing across the surrounding computers, Officer Jenny immediately identified the key to solving the case: obtaining intelligence on their enemies from those computers. Yet just as she was about to call in technicians to analyze the data, the greatest danger arrived.
Boom! A tremendous explosion sent a dazzling pillar of fire soaring into the sky, and a violent shock wave swept across the area. The officers stationed outside the facility turned deathly pale, clutching their heads as they threw themselves behind the police cars for cover. When the force of the explosion finally subsided, they rose and looked at the facility, now reduced to rubble, their eyes filled with bewilderment, fear, and grief.
