"Ahh, that was a great night's sleep!" At the Pokémon Center on Sol Island, Max stretched luxuriously and sat up. Before his eyes were fully open, he called out as usual, "Good morning, May! Good morning, Ralts!"
To Max's surprise, however, only Ralts answered. His sister's familiar voice was nowhere to be heard. Now fully awake, he looked at her empty bed, its covers thrown back, and scratched his head. He shouted toward the bathroom, "May, are you in there? May?"
After calling several times without a reply, Max turned to Ralts in confusion. "Ralts, did you see where May went when you woke up this morning?" Ralts had only just woken up too and shook its head.
"Oh, okay!" Max got out of bed and noticed that his sister's waist pack was still there. "Maybe she went to the restaurant to buy breakfast so we could eat early and head to Manro Island for the matches?! But... is May really that hardworking?" He pushed his glasses up his nose, looking very astute, then shook his head. "Never mind. I'll brush my teeth and wash my face first!"
May still had not returned by the time he finished washing up. Growing anxious, Max ran out of the room and into the Pokémon Center's restaurant. He looked around but found no sign of her, then hurried over to Nurse Joy. When he asked her, however, she said she had not seen May leave. With no other ideas, Max searched throughout the Pokémon Center, but still found no trace of his sister.
"Her bag's still here, so where could she have gone?" Frowning, Max returned to the room. Just as he stepped inside, he heard Ralts calling to him. He looked up and saw it holding several strands of brown hair.
