Hinata Hyuga's place had originally been meant for someone else. At first, he had thought Sasuke Uchiha would be the most suitable choice.
Unfortunately, something unexpected had happened on the Night of the Uchiha Massacre, and Sasuke Uchiha had disappeared.
No one knew whether Sasuke Uchiha was dead or what had happened to him. After all, the entire Uchiha Clan Compound had been emptied, with not a single body left behind.
Most people believed Sasuke Uchiha was probably dead. After all, once an enraged Uchiha watched the man who had destroyed his clan escape, then found the killer's younger brother, there was no telling whether he would vent his fury on that brother.
But Hiruzen Sarutobi's instincts told him that Sasuke Uchiha was still alive and would appear again.
In the end, Hiruzen Sarutobi made his decision. He placed Naruto Uzumaki's, Hinata Hyuga's, and Sakura Haruno's files together with Kakashi's.
"Someone come in."
"Lord Hokage!"
A ninja hurried into the Hokage Office.
"Go tell Kakashi to come see me. While you're at it, have his records transferred out of ANBU. He won't be working there anymore."
"Yes, sir!"
At the Hatake Clan home, Kakashi climbed out of bed, washed up, and entered the dining room to find Sakumo Saiki (Hatake Sakumo) sitting there reading the newspaper. Breakfast was already laid out on the table.
"You're up. Have breakfast first."
"All right, Uncle Sakumo."
Knock, knock, knock!
Kakashi had just sat down when someone knocked at the door.
"Go ahead and eat. I'll get the door."
Sakumo put down his newspaper and headed for the entrance.
"Coming."
When Sakumo opened the door, he saw a ninja wearing a Jonin vest. He immediately recognized him as a Special Jōnin who worked in the Hokage Building.
"Hello. Is Kakashi home? Lord Hokage has
