Rex's plans

The sky was cloudless, the weather bright and mild. Not a wisp of cloud marked the deep blue expanse, while the blazing sun baked the earth.

The azure sky was pristine, crystalline, and dazzlingly beautiful. The brilliant red sun added a splash of vivid color to the clear day, its seven-colored rays merging into blinding white light.

With a long, grinding creak, the gates of the Greymane Wall, which had been closed for days, slowly opened. Gilneas was once again connected to the outside world.

Three days had passed since the undead army withdrew. In that time, the entire Greymane Wall had been cleaned up. All the corpses and skeletal remains had been disposed of, burned to ashes. Cremation had not originally been customary in Azeroth, but it had now become widespread. The desecration of burning a corpse was far preferable to becoming a pawn of the Undead Scourge after death. Faced with those two choices, everyone could accept cremation.

This proved one thing beyond doubt: everything feared comparison. Once two things were set side by side, the difference became clear.

Naturally, cleaning up the battlefield was not Rex's responsibility. He had enjoyed a few easy days. With the undead army's withdrawal, the weight pressing down on his heart had lifted entirely, and he had spent those three days doing as he pleased. He still worried about the High Elves, but that concern would only last a while. After all, the High Elves were neither humans nor the people of Gilneas. Ultimately, Rex was an outsider. A person could worry about someone else's affairs for a time, but certainly not for a lifetime.

"I'll be returning to Dalaran shortly. I came to say goodbye," Jaina said, standing beside Rex. The breeze stirred her golden hair as her rosy lips parted.
