Golden feathers swept across the sky as Rex soared on his gryphon. A dozen or so Gryphon Riders followed close behind him, the whole party speeding toward Lordaeron City.

Gryphon Riders could now be seen in both Dalaran and Lordaeron. People of high standing generally received an escort of Gryphon Riders whenever they traveled by gryphon, though that privilege was only a consequence of the current instability. It had not existed before.

After spending a few days in the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas and attending the celebrations, Rex took his leave.

Fine as Silvermoon City was, it held little appeal for Rex. He was not a mage who coveted magic items. As far as he was concerned, those things only needed to be useful. How they were made and what principles lay behind them were of little interest to him.

Looking up at the blue sky, Rex thought, I should reach Lordaeron City today.

On his return journey from Silvermoon City, Rex had taken its portal straight to Dalaran before mounting a gryphon for the rest of the trip.

Time ticked by, and the party remained largely silent. They had little choice. As the gryphons raced through the sky, powerful currents of air buffeted their faces. Anything they said became indistinct, making conversation difficult. Unless something important came up, it was best to stay quiet.

Gradually, the sky darkened. A dusky yellow spread across the horizon as the sun sank in the west, and Lordaeron City came into view. As Rex watched the dark speck grow larger, one of the Gryphon Riders darted ahead to guide the party along the proper approach. Flying wherever one pleased was forbidden in Lordaeron City, especially when one's identity could not be verified. Any creature or device flying about without authorization would be shot down
