After sending Vorgan away, the smile on Rex's face slowly faded. He had other plans for the Gnolls in the coming war against the Burning Legion's invasion. No one could claim certain victory against the Burning Legion, a mighty army that had conquered countless worlds. A brutal battle was inevitable, and casualties would surely be countless.
That meant he needed cannon fodder, and Gnolls were clearly an excellent choice. Rex reached that conclusion in his heart.
However, the Wolfhowl Tribe did not have enough Gnolls. Rex had already learned a little about the tribe's circumstances from Vorgan. Though the details were limited, he knew that the tribe had suffered severe losses from the Orcs' encirclement and the Undead invasion.
By his reckoning, there was still quite some time before the Burning Legion invaded. Arthas had yet to obtain the Book of Medivh, so there was still room to delay matters. Even so, raising a force of tens of thousands of expendable troops by attacking the Gnolls would be difficult.
He did not know the territories where the Gnolls roamed. Like nomadic peoples, they frequently moved their camps rather than remaining in one place. Finding traces of Gnolls was not difficult; finding their main forces was.
That was the first obstacle. The second was that, even after defeating the Gnolls and capturing large numbers of them, getting them to obey would be difficult.
Rex had never considered this approach because it was impractical. But Vorgan's appearance had given him hope. If he worked with Vorgan and helped him become chief of the Wolfhowl Tribe, he could then destroy several Gnoll tribes, capture their members, and place them under Vorgan's rule to serve as cannon fodder. Such a plan was not impossible.
He would certainly support Vorgan, though the specifics still needed
