Vorgan took this trade very seriously and had already brought everything over. Rex was a man of action as well. His pen flew across the pages, and he finished one book in a day. After completing the work in two days, he had it sent to Vorgan, who had long since left. Two days of relentless effort had taken quite a toll on Rex. The other demands were manageable; the real strain had been on his mental energy.

For most of those two days, Rex had been thinking about exactly what he should write for Vorgan.

After finally getting Vorgan out of his hair, Rex began examining the fine things Vorgan had brought him this time.

As Rex had expected, most of Vorgan's offerings were books of magic from the Council of Tirisfal. After skimming their contents, he had no desire to read further. Rex was not a mage. A mage might have been ecstatic to receive such things, but he was not.

Facing the sunlight outside, he glanced up at the sky. The Arathi Highlands were as gray as ever. Rex summoned one of the guards stationed outside his tent and said, "Go fetch Orys for me."

"At once." The guard nodded in acknowledgment and strode away.

Rex returned to his tent. About five or six minutes later, Orys's voice came from outside. "Your Highness, you sent for me?"

"Come in," Rex said, beckoning Orys inside.

"Sit," Rex said. "How has the Wolf Fang Tribe been doing lately?"

The Wolf Fang Tribe was another gnoll tribe, as its name made clear. Like the Wolfhowl Tribe, it bore a typical gnoll tribal name. Gnoll tribes tended to include the word "wolf" in their names, as though it conferred some sort of honor. Yet despite that custom, quite a few tribes
