Cenarius frowned, anger rising across his face as he called out the newcomer's name. His use of her full name made his displeasure clear. "Tyrande isn't here," Maiev Shadowsong murmured after scanning the room and finding no sign of Tyrande. Frowning, she said, "Someone attacked the Watchers and then freed Illidan."

"Illidan escaped?" Cenarius's anger vanished as quickly as it had come, and he asked anxiously.

"Yes. While I was away on a mission, every Watcher left behind was murdered," Maiev Shadowsong said bitterly. "I suspect someone on the inside helped free Illidan. They knew exactly when I would be away. Where is Tyrande? I need her to mobilize the Sentinels to investigate this."

Cenarius's expression changed again, turning utterly grim. Illidan's escape was no good thing for the Night Elves. Whatever feelings Illidan had once held toward his people, ten thousand years of imprisonment could turn even a good man bad. Only a fool would remain unchanged. Illidan had become a threat to the Night Elves, but that was not the most frightening part. What truly frightened Cenarius was that someone had released him.

Were they Illidan's former subordinates, or his partners? Their existence was the greater threat. The place where Illidan had been imprisoned was well hidden, known to few. Coupled with their familiarity with the Night Elves' internal affairs, this suggested that the culprit was also a Night Elf, and certainly one of considerable standing. Otherwise, they could not have known Maiev's movements so precisely.

Illidan alone had merely been a threat. With this person behind him, he had become a lurking danger.
