He surveyed the second defensive line, where construction was proceeding at a feverish pace under Darius and the others' direction. Seeing the defenses being reinforced, Rex nodded in satisfaction.
With no expense spared in money or resources, supplies arrived in a steady stream, making the second defensive line exceptionally sturdy. Many prized magic-resistant materials had been brought out of storage. No one could afford to hold anything back now. Those with strength had to contribute it, and those with manpower had to provide it.
"Go and fetch Darius for me," Rex said gravely to a guard beside him, gazing at the distant battlefield. The sky glowed fiery red, and monsters occasionally flew across it.
The guard nodded respectfully, his reverence coming from deep within. Weapon in hand, he hurried away.
Darius soon arrived. Rex glanced at him and saw that he clearly had not been doing well lately. His face looked haggard and anxious, and his eyes were bloodshot.
"How is the battle going at the first defensive line?" Rex asked with concern.
Having just returned, what Rex most wanted to know was undoubtedly the current state of the battle. It was a matter of utmost importance. Everything else had to take a back seat.
