"I could kill you, then, while you were reforming, cultivate a new consciousness to take your place. You are the embodiment of the water element, but the embodiment of the water element does not have to be you."

"Someone else could become the water elemental," Rex finished with a sinister grin.

As soon as Rex finished speaking, Neptulon the Tidehunter cried out in alarm, "Impossible! You simply cannot do that!"

Neptulon the Tidehunter's voice was thunderous, but anyone could hear the panic in his words. There was no hiding it.

He was afraid. Now, Neptulon the Tidehunter was truly afraid. Rex's words had struck him where it hurt. Though Neptulon the Tidehunter was the embodiment of Azeroth's water element and could not be banished outright, who had decreed that he had to be that embodiment?

Those two statements sounded utterly contradictory, but a closer examination revealed no contradiction at all. Neptulon the Tidehunter was the embodiment of the water element, an indispensable part of Azeroth. His consciousness, however, was another matter. As long as his essence remained in Azeroth, there would be no problem. Whether his consciousness still existed would make no difference to Azeroth.

"I, Rex, always say exactly what I mean," Rex declared shamelessly, seemingly forgetting that he had just threatened to banish Neptulon the Tidehunter to the Twisting Nether.

Rex had forgotten that point, and Neptulon the Tidehunter had evidently overlooked it as well. The elemental core spun even faster before he finally fell silent.

Once Neptulon the Tidehunter fell silent, Rex did too. He did not press him, but simply waited quietly.
