Great slabs of barren red rock floated in the sky. One enormous slab was the size of a kingdom, suspended among smaller fragments-some large enough to build houses or cities on, others smaller than a fist. Massive chains of darkness linked many of the rocks. Rampant fungi and unspeakably evil humanoid creatures were scattered across these desolate islands. Overhead, the Twisting Nether released flickering light and streams of energy.

Outland, Hellfire Citadel, Honor Hold.

The relentless winds blew year-round, sweeping over the red earth like a great hand endlessly stroking its surface.

Honor Hold stood along the Path of Glory, south of Hellfire Citadel, and belonged to the Alliance.

After the Second War, the Alliance sent an expedition through the Dark Portal to eliminate the orc threat once and for all. Located on Hellfire Peninsula, Honor Hold was defended by the remnants of the Sons of Lothar, the first elite Alliance troops to venture deep into Draenor.

Honor Hold was one of the few human bases in Outland, and it stood on the front line. Compared with Allerian Stronghold, Wildhammer Stronghold, and Khanavar Village-outposts established, or once established, by those who had accompanied the Expeditionary Force to Outland-Honor Hold was undoubtedly more important. It was humanity's military bridgehead, a frontline position where humans fought both orcs and the demons of the Burning Legion that constantly emerged from the Twisting Nether.

More importantly, the region around Honor Hold was called Hellfire Citadel, and within that region stood an immensely important structure: the Dark Portal!

It was the hope of every human there. Those who remained longed for the day when the Dark Portal would open again.

Yet that was merely a cherished dream. Neither in Honor Hold nor in Allerian Stronghold had anyone ever intended to take the initiative to reopen
