Oak barrels kept being hurled down. Eventually, Kael'thas no longer needed to cast Fireball. The flames burning below ignited the falling oak oil barrels directly, making them burst apart.
The roaring flames devoured the Gnoll brutes, and cheers rose from the Southshore Wall.
"They're retreating! The Orcs are retreating!" Jubilant shouts rang out one after another.
Even through the flames, they could still see the Orc army slowly withdrawing.
The warriors who had fought so valiantly moments before slumped onto the wall. With the pressure from the enemy gone, exhaustion, weariness, and every other strain swept over them at once.
The Orc army receded like a tide. Its first assault had been successfully repelled.
The Orcs would certainly not let matters rest and were bound to attack again, but the people of Southshore and the Knights of the Round Table were now filled with confidence. Today's battle had not only killed countless enemies, but also raised their own morale.
The uncertainty they had felt upon first seeing the Orc army vanished completely. Everyone looked at Rex with respect. With only a handful of losses on their side and thousands of enemies killed or wounded, today's battle had firmly established his authority.
Rex's gaze remained grave. Repelling the Orcs brought him no joy. Even as they withdrew, their army still stretched out like a tide. Today's deaths had been nowhere near enough to cripple such a force. Southshore, on the other hand, had used up most of its oil, Timber Rams, and other supplies.
"Osborne, take some men and repair the smashed winch. Bring up the intact Timber Rams from beneath the wall." Rex began issuing
