Long ago, the Night Elves and the Satyrs fought a brutal war in Kalimdor. A group of Druids adopted a powerful but unwieldy form that embodied the fury of the ancient wolf Goldrinn. Taught by Ralaar Firefang, these Druids sought a way to temper the inherent, uncontrollable rage of their chosen form. To that end, they willingly channeled power into the Scythe of Elune, a mystical weapon created from one of Goldrinn's fangs and Elune's staff.
The Druids' fury did not abate. Instead, the weapon transformed Ralaar and his followers into Worgen: savage humanoid beasts enslaved by their primal urges. Blinded by rage, Ralaar's Druids could no longer distinguish friend from foe in their battles against the Satyrs. Night Elves bitten by the frenzied beasts suffered the same vicious curse and became Worgen themselves. Determined to stop the affliction from spreading at any cost, Malfurion Stormrage banished the Worgen to a pocket of the Emerald Dream, where they would sleep peacefully for eternity.
The Worgen threat remained contained for a thousand years, until Archmage Arugal released them from the Dream. Summoned at King Genn Greymane's command, the Worgen were sent to the front lines to resist the Scourge invading the Kingdom of Gilneas. But a sinister affliction soon spread among the humans throughout Silverpine Forest, infecting the Gilnean soldiers stationed atop the Greymane Wall. Before long, the affliction had crossed that legendary barrier and begun eating away at the people of Gilneas. As reports of strange disappearances and attacks continued to mount,
fear took root in people's hearts. The curse had been spreading until recently, and victory proved short-lived. Now, just as Gilneas was recovering from civil war, the curse was being driven back by renewed fervor. An even greater threat to the Worgen was the Forsaken assaulting their gates
