By the next day, Tirion Fordring had already returned from his visit to the Horde.
The Alliance and Horde expeditionary camps were not far apart, but they were not particularly close, either.
Naturally, this was because they were wary of each other.
The Horde and the Alliance were anything but close. Their current show of friendliness was born of necessity. Given the opportunity, they would have started fighting long ago.
Conflict between the Alliance and the Horde was already escalating, and it would only continue to intensify in the future, with no sign of easing.
With no real friendship between them, they naturally had to worry about surprise attacks on their camps. If they built too close together, they would have to remain on guard all day. Keeping their nerves stretched that tight every single day was simply impossible.
They needed a buffer so that even if the Horde launched an attack on the Alliance, the Alliance would have time to react rather than be caught completely off guard.
By that reasoning, the farther apart their camps were, the better. But the Dark Portal meant they could not afford to be too far apart.
After all, the Alliance and the Horde had built their camps because of the Dark Portal. Both wanted control over it.
Both factions had come to Outland through the Dark Portal. Whoever controlled it could prevent the other side from bringing in reinforcements, splitting their forces into two isolated groups: one in Outland and one in Azeroth.
Those forces could then be defeated separately. That alone showed how important the Dark Portal was.
Riding Netherwing, Tirion Fordring had taken only half an hour to reach the Horde expeditionary camp.
Netherwing was a flying mount. The same journey on an ordinary ground mount would have taken well
