Kel'Thuzad's latest operation, for instance, had been a major undertaking, involving more than five Heroic fighters.

Nothing on that scale had ever happened in Kel'Thuzad's previous operations. If he had been able to deploy so many fighters and commit such formidable resources before, the Kingdom of Gilneas would not have dealt with him so easily.

This development gave Rex an idea.

The Lich King had awakened.

Only that explanation could account for everything. Although Kel'Thuzad could mobilize considerable Undead forces, he was not the Lich King, after all. He was not the master of the Undead. Commanding ordinary undead was one thing, but Heroic fighters were another matter. In his previous operations, he had deployed only a handful of them.

He had never mounted an operation on this scale, deploying five Heroic fighters at once.

That was one reason for Rex's suspicions, but it was not the only one.

Anub'arak's resurrection was another piece of solid evidence. His return certainly had a great deal to do with the Burning Legion. How could Rex have failed to recognize the dense demonic power emanating from Anub'arak? Its fluctuations were so distinct that he could identify it at a glance. The aura of death around Anub'arak, the aura that marked him as undead, was nowhere near as strong as his demonic aura.

That told Rex that Anub'arak had close ties to the Burning Legion. In this era, all demons could be said to have some connection to the Burning Legion. Demons had not originally existed as a race in this world; they had appeared because of the Burning Legion.
