The tavern was filled with a deafening bustle.
Rex had just set down his wineglass when he suddenly noticed something. People kept pushing open the tavern door and coming in. There was nothing unusual about that, and he had not spotted anything different. But someone had just opened the door and left, and in that instant, Rex caught sight of something strange. Beyond the door lay a desert. Endless yellow sand appeared before his eyes.
Yellow sand filled the air, turning heaven and earth the same color. There was nothing but sand, with no other color to be seen.
But that scenery could not possibly belong to the Warcraft System world.
Rex had not personally explored the more distant reaches of the Warcraft System world, but he had examined the area where the great grassland once stood. Although the grassland had disappeared, all that had happened was that ravines had formed, dividing it into countless pieces.
If he ignored those ravines, he could still consider it a great grassland. Lush, chest-high wild grass grew everywhere, swaying from side to side in the gentle breeze.
That was the scenery he should have seen outside the tavern. It could not possibly have been a desert.
Rex had long harbored suspicions about the Heroic figures coming and going. The Warcraft System world was not small, but neither was it enormous. If other Heroic figures had appeared and begun moving about, he believed he would certainly have known. Those entering the tavern therefore had to be coming from somewhere else, rather than from the Warcraft System world. That had originally been no more than his conjecture, but what he had just seen confirmed that they came from other worlds. That explained why there were so many of them.
