In Azeroth, an Archmage was a symbol not only of power but also of status. Anyone who held that title received free food and lodging wherever he went, and could meet a king without bowing while still being treated with the utmost courtesy. Concealing the Archmage's face had been unavoidable. His somewhat vacant eyes were far too conspicuous to leave uncovered. This also revealed another of his talents: he did not rely on his eyes to see at all. Even when Rex covered his eyes with the cloak, it did not affect him.
