I've been especially lazy lately, and updates have dropped sharply. Let me slack off again today; tomorrow, I'll release a ten-thousand-word update.
Back at his residence, Rex sat in a chair, sipping tea and lost in thought. "Tea" was the name Rex himself had given the drink. In Azeroth, the most popular beverage was still coffee, a favorite among nobles. Tea leaves did exist, but unfortunately, no one paid them much attention. Different cultures and customs gave rise to different tastes.
Aside from Rex, few people liked tea.
The hazy night shrouded Gilneas, and darkness lay outside. It was already late, and Rex had only recently returned from the royal palace.
After visiting the palace and having a long talk with the father he had acquired in this life, Rex felt much of his pent-up anxiety and sense of urgency subside. Gilneas was changing, and he was working hard to improve the defenses of the Greymane Wall. Gilneas had nothing the Lich King needed, either, so an attack by the main army of the Undead Scourge was unlikely. The Undead Scourge attacked Dalaran because Medivh's staff was there.
The Undead Scourge was a mass of machines without emotions or a future, but the person controlling it was different. Without a clear objective, he would not commit his main force to invading Gilneas.
Rex was selfish and had his own interests to consider. His protection of the people of Lordaeron rested on the condition that Gilneas would not be destroyed.
Who had no selfish motives? Most good people only did good when it did not harm their own interests. Could anyone say that made them bad people? No. They were good people, so Rex was a good person, too.
A selfish good person who nevertheless considered himself decent.
