Amon returned to the hospital room and set the two portions of soup dumplings, packed together, on the bedside cabinet beside Xia Mi's bed. "Here, the large portion is yours."
He sat down on a chair and began eating his own portion.
Xia Mi picked up the plastic bag and popped a soup dumpling into her mouth. As she bit through the thin dough skin, the delicious broth flooded her mouth like a condensed river, while the rich fragrance of meat and the fresh scent of scallions unfolded layer upon layer. Her bright eyes narrowed slightly, curving into two happy crescents as she said in surprise:
"Wow, you even went to Fuyuanji Restaurant for these? I've always loved the snacks from that place."
Amon shrugged. "I didn't pay attention to the name. I just walked along, saw that the place looked fairly clean, and bought them there."
"You don't even know Fuyuanji Restaurant? It's a famous century-old establishment, you know. Everyone knows it." Xia Mi looked at Amon as if asking whether he was even local.
Amon merely devoured his lunch in a manner that looked refined but was actually quite swift. After eating two more, he slowly shook his head.
"Though I'd quite like to enjoy good food too, there often isn't that much time... Work keeps me busy."
"Driving a truck keeps you that busy?"
"That alone isn't too bad, but I have other work to do."
"Other work? Uncle, you have a side job too?"
With lunch in hand, Xia Mi had reverted to calling him Uncle. She apparently still had not figured out the difference between one full meal and being fed full meals for every meal during the coming days in the hospital.
