In the darkness, an enormous, unfathomable shadow glided past without a sound. At first, it moved as slowly as a mountain range shifting across the seabed. But when it struck, it was as fast as a thunderbolt!
Amon felt a node in his mental link suddenly go dark: the node belonging to the Dead Servant puppet that had found the Lenin. It went out like a snuffed candle.
The vision he shared with it was swallowed by absolute darkness. The last image it sent back was a blur of shadow carrying tremendous force.
Something had killed the Dragon-form Dead Servant puppet in an instant!
Its speed was beyond belief.
With the Dragon-form Dead Servant's highly transformed body, an ordinary Dragon-Blooded Creature could never have evaded its senses. Anything capable of dispatching a puppet whose physical abilities rivaled an S-Class Hybrid so cleanly was no ordinary creature—he suspected that enormous shadow was the Feathered Serpent God lying in wait here!
Perhaps the three targets had never been far apart. The dead Embryo nourished the White King's remains, while the Feathered Serpent God, the White King's Dragon Servant, stood guard beside them like a loyal sentinel.
Amon hesitated no longer. Through the Mental Network, he ordered the other Dead Servant puppets to investigate.
Twisted figures converged once more from across the ancient city. Like hyenas catching the scent of carrion, they swam swiftly toward the wreck of the Lenin.
In the darkness, the behemoth seemed enraged by the intruders' approach—or perhaps it was merely obeying its instinct to guard. It attacked again. A shadow swept past, and another Dead Servant puppet's connection abruptly broke.
This time, though, the successive attacks revealed its true form. Through the remaining Dead Servants' eyes, Amon saw it clearly.
