The first to step out of the coffin was an old man in black robes. His face was gaunt and withered, as though he had no flesh or blood, just a layer of skin stretched over a skeleton.
His eyes were cloudy and vacant, as if he had no soul. Yet as time passed, they gradually grew livelier, gaining a hint of vitality.
Only then did he seem to notice the two people before him. He first bowed slightly and said respectfully, "Lord Void Devouring Flame!"
Then he gave Hun Tiandi a slight nod. "Clan Leader."
A trace of displeasure flickered through Hun Tiandi's bright eyes. In the eyes of many clan members, Void Devouring Flame was even more important than him, their clan leader.
Hun Yao, however, saw nothing improper about it. The four of them were from a far older generation than Hun Tiandi. In their eyes, Hun Tiandi was merely a highly promising junior.
Void Devouring Flame was different. His history was practically as old as that of the Soul Clan itself. Even their combined ages amounted to little more than a fraction of his. Void Devouring Flame was both their superior and their elder.
Though slightly displeased, Hun Tiandi did not show it. He said softly:
"The plan has reached its most critical point. The Ancient Jade will soon be complete. When that time comes, I will have to trouble you ancestors. Please lend me your strength."
Hun Yao nodded. "This is the meaning of our existence. To burn away this last trace of our life force for our clan's great cause is our honor."
A hoarse voice came from behind him as well. "A thousand years... Is this moment finally about to arrive?"
"I have waited for this moment for a very long time," Hun
