Ch. 1501The Little Ones' False Sense of Security
Plot points and events
- Qingchan and Qingxuan defeat an initial group of more than a dozen opponents, showing strong coordination but sustaining injuries.
- They then fight nearly a hundred more. Though they eventually prevail, the battle exposes their poor combat instincts: they hesitate to kill, fail to press openings, and fight in a disorganized way. Exhausted, they neglect to treat their wounds.
- The Demon Emperor, watching the trial, realizes his overprotection has left them inexperienced despite their high cultivation. He orders Xue Lier to send another squad to teach them a lasting lesson.
- The new opponents ambush the siblings with corrosive liquid, badly burning their skin and faces. They recover enough to assess the enemy and coordinate a counterattack.
- A force of roughly ten thousand then advances. The siblings fear they cannot survive it, while Xue Lier worries the pressure may destroy their confidence. The Demon Emperor insists the ordeal must awaken their fighting instincts.
Character developments and interactions
- Qingchan and Qingxuan show excellent teamwork and resilience, but their confidence in their father’s protection has dulled their vigilance. The ambush forces them to recognize that the trial offers no guaranteed safety; they quickly adjust and make a plan together.
- Demon Emperor Daochen shifts from anxious protector to harsh instructor. He recognizes that shielding the children has weakened their battlefield awareness and believes they must face genuine danger to improve.
- Xue Lier acts as a mediator, initially urging patience and later warning that overwhelming pressure could damage the children’s confidence. She follows Daochen’s order to arrange the ambush.
Themes
- Protection versus growth: Excessive sheltering can hinder competence and independence.
- Combat readiness: Strength alone is insufficient; battlefield awareness, decisiveness, and caution matter.
- Pressure and resilience: Danger can provoke growth, but too much may undermine confidence.
- False security: The siblings’ assumption that their father’s presence makes them safe is portrayed as a dangerous weakness.
