Background / History
Thirteen years before meeting Little Leopard, Blood Wuy a fought a Heavenly Dragon Way elder who specialized in nine-dragon divine fire mystic astral energy. Although Blood Wuy a had only just reached Seventh Rank and his opponent was an established Eighth-Rank expert, he killed the elder. The unexplained victory prompted widespread speculation that he possessed an exceptionally powerful secret technique or unusual art 34.
The killing sparked a conflict between the Heavenly Dragon Way and the Blood River Sect. The latter returned three secret manuals but retained copies. Years afterward, Lei Xu, Wang She, and Nian Wushuang eradicated the sect’s influence in Great Jin and challenged the Blood River Ancestor at its headquarters. Following that confrontation, the Blood River Sect announced that its remaining copies of the Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Art had been destroyed and pledged neither to practice nor disclose the art 34.
By age forty-eight, Blood Wuy a had become notorious for slaughtering entire households over minor disagreements. His reputation in Green Province was so terrifying that his name was said to silence children crying at night 29.
Appearance
- Build: Tall and powerfully built, approximately two meters in height 33.
- Face: Rugged features and an untidy beard, with stiff stubble compared to steel needles 33.
- Hair: Casually gathered into a topknot secured by a crooked red wooden hairpin 33.
- Clothing: A scarlet robe, riddled with blade cuts when Little Leopard first sees him 33.
- Injuries: Numerous bleeding wounds, including a deep sword cut extending from his right shoulder to his left ribs 33.
- Condition during recovery: Initially deathly pale and unsteady, with occasional muffled coughs; his complexion becomes noticeably rosier as he regains vitality 34 50.
Personality
Blood Wuy a is violent, vindictive, and willing to kill uninvolved people to vent his anger. During his flight from Lu Shaoyou, he repeatedly massacres those unfortunate enough to cross his path. Nevertheless, his conduct is not wholly indiscriminate: Qin Xuanlong expects him to avoid provoking the powerful Wu Household without cause 29.
His treatment of Little Leopard is calculated rather than affectionate. He uses gifts, praise, and the formal master–disciple relationship to secure the boy’s labor, while privately intending to kill him once his usefulness ends. He assumes that a clever ten-year-old can still be controlled through ordinary kindness and rewards, failing to recognize the experienced adult mind behind Little Leopard’s obedience 33 43 45.
He can also be a patient and effective instructor. After initially rushing through a sword lesson, he spends six hours explaining its fundamentals and answering cultivation questions. This attentiveness serves his own plans: he insists on results from Little Leopard because the coming Demon Toad operation depends on the taught move 42 50.
Abilities & Skills
Bloodflame Divine Force
Also described as bloodflame true astral energy, this unusual art condenses baleful energy into blood-colored astral power 34 35 40.
- Enables flight and can carry another person through the air in a ribbon of blood energy 34 35.
- Produces a surrounding blood aura that can gather and intercept the Demon Toad’s corrosive spray 37.
- Remains usable despite his severe injuries, though exertion leaves him pale and depleted 34 38.
- Was shattered by Lu Shaoyou’s sword strike; the accompanying damage to his heart meridians prevents a quick recovery 34 50.
Blood Sustenance and Recovery
Blood Wuy a restores vitality by consuming fresh animal blood and regulating his internal energy 33 34.
- Releases bloody light from his fingertips to cut animals’ throats, then draws their blood into his mouth 33.
- Can kill and drain ten animals together with a single sweep of his finger 38.
- Uses meditation surrounded by blood-colored mist, which he eventually inhales as two ribbons 34 42.
- Requires repeated supplies of living prey; early improvement suppresses his symptoms rather than fully healing his injuries 34 35 38.
Secret Techniques and Martial Knowledge
His collection of secret demonic techniques and unusual arts makes him unusually formidable even among Eighth-Rank fighters 29.
- Recognizes the Wu Household’s cultivation methods from Little Leopard’s internal energy 33.
- Possesses the complete Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Art, including the method of combining it with earthfire origin baleful energy to form nine fire dragons. Possession and instruction are documented, but his own cultivation of this art is not 34.
- His annotations compare bloodflame true astral energy with the Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Art and expose enough information for enemies potentially to identify weaknesses in his cultivation 35 42.
- Teaches the Wild Goose Floating Heart Method, a top-tier lightness skill that allows Little Leopard to descend safely from cliffs 35 36.
- Teaches an unnamed hidden-weapon technique, though Little Leopard initially struggles to apply it accurately 35 36.
- Teaches an unnamed fist technique that concentrates internal energy into an explosive punch. Its circulation route is restricted to clenched fists, and excessive output risks damaging the user’s meridians 45.
Swordsmanship
Although not a sword specialist, Blood Wuy a understands swordsmanship far beyond ordinary wandering fighters 42.
- Teaches Little Leopard a highly complex sword move together with its internal method and his personal insights 38.
- Explains the fundamentals when memorization alone proves insufficient 42.
- Simplifies the move for the coming Demon Toad hunt. Little Leopard’s execution produces nine devastating thrusts but exhausts him and aggravates his damaged meridians 50.
Concealment and Escape
- Highly skilled at moving unseen and concealing his tracks 29.
- Uses the Vast Cang Mountains’ immense forests and remote terrain to hide while recovering from Lu Shaoyou’s pursuit 29 50.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black Gold Short Sword — Given to Little Leopard as a welcoming gift. A black blade approximately a foot long, refined at least a hundred times, with a metal hilt and a sheath made from unidentified beast hide 33.
- Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Art manuscript — Contains the complete art and Blood Wuy a’s own martial annotations. He gives it to Little Leopard despite the Blood River Sect’s promise never to disclose the technique 34 35 42.
- Unnamed divine weapon — Used to cut the Demon Toad’s tongue during their first observed battle 37.
- Elixir Perfume — A grayish-yellow powder with a bitter scent and delicate fragrance. Prepared using Rootless Grass, Drifting Glass Flower, and Bitter-Gall Orchid to attract and disorient newly intelligent demon beasts 45 50.
- Wound-Healing Salve — Supplied in a white porcelain bottle to treat Little Leopard’s burned hands; the injuries heal within a few days 50.
Relationships
- Zhou Bao / Little Leopard — Abducted disciple and blood-food gatherer. Blood Wuy a provides valuable instruction but plans to kill him to prevent his martial secrets from spreading; Little Leopard conceals his distrust and prepares countermeasures 33 43 45 50.
- Lu Shaoyou, the White-Robed Sword Saint — Eighth-Rank pursuer who defeats him after witnessing a household massacre. Lu’s sword damages his heart meridians and shatters his bloodflame divine force 29 34.
- Unnamed Heavenly Dragon Way elder — Eighth-Rank opponent whom Blood Wuy a killed shortly after reaching Seventh Rank, triggering a wider sect conflict 34.
- Demon Toad — Poisonous mountain creature that interrupts his recovery. After wounding it, Blood Wuy a prepares to lure it from its cavern; his private plan is to tame it, although he tells Little Leopard that he wants its inner core 37 38 45 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Flight from Lu Shaoyou
While passing through western Yang Province, Blood Wuy a slaughters a household and encounters Lu Shaoyou, who is visiting a friend nearby. Defeated in their battle, he flees under pursuit for ten thousand miles to Cloud Province, killing bystanders along the route. News that he is approaching the Vast Cang Mountains alarms Green Ram Market’s authorities, the Black Dragon Society, and the Wu Ironworks 29.
Captivity in the Vast Cang Mountains
Blood Wuy a seizes Little Leopard during the boy’s journey home and carries him into the mountains. He briefly drops him during the flight to test his fear, then catches him again. Once in a secluded valley, he compels the young blacksmith to become his disciple and procure live animals for his recovery 32 33.
He supplies a powerful sword, the complete Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Art, and additional techniques to make Little Leopard more useful. These gifts also reveal the danger of the arrangement: the forbidden inheritance and personally compromising annotations convince Little Leopard that his master intends to silence him eventually 34 35.
Demon Toad Preparations
A six-legged, bronze-scaled Demon Toad attacks Blood Wuy a during his recuperation. He counters its corrosive venom and wounds its tongue, forcing it back underground, but the fight further depletes his vitality. He subsequently increases Little Leopard’s blood-food workload and begins preparing him for another encounter 37 38 42.
After obtaining the herbs for Elixir Perfume, Blood Wuy a sets the hunt for the full moon, ten days away. He insists that Little Leopard learn to unleash the sword move’s maximum power and promises treatment afterward. Little Leopard suspects that the attack will leave him expendable and begins normalizing unconscious animals among his deliveries, creating an opportunity to conceal Soul-Dazing Powder in the blood food. The full-moon deadline arrives without the confrontation’s outcome being shown in the provided chapters 45 50.
