When it came to problems with newborns, seeking out Houtu was surely the right course.
As the greatly virtuous Houtu, who governed reincarnation throughout heaven and earth, she would never deliberately target these human newborns. That was why Nuwa wanted to ask her and get to the bottom of it.

By the end, the rumor claimed that Nuwa and Houtu had fallen out for some unknown reason, and that Houtu had tampered with the health of all newborns in the Human Race to avenge herself on Nuwa.
According to the rumor, not a single newborn in the entire Human Race was now healthy; every one of them had something wrong with them.
