Naruto noticed the Ichiraku Ramen coupons as soon as they fell beside him. He stared at the stack. There had to be more than ten of them, which meant more than ten bowls of ramen.
Naruto gazed greedily at the coupons, licked his lips, and rubbed his empty little belly. He could almost smell the faint aroma of ramen.
Naruto looked up at Qiu Shan Uchiha's retreating back, then down at the coupons by his feet, seemingly locked in a fierce internal struggle. Suddenly, he snatched the coupons off the ground and chased after the man.
Qiu Shan Uchiha walked slowly toward the Uchiha District. He had eaten too much, so he might as well take a stroll to help digest it. He had dropped the Ichiraku Ramen coupons beside Naruto mainly because he could not stand watching any longer.
The Fourth Hokage and his wife had both died protecting the village, yet the child they left behind not only failed to receive the treatment a hero's son deserved, but suffered because he was the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki. To make Naruto more dependent on him, the Third had spread the rumor that Naruto was the demon fox incarnate, causing everyone to shun him. Although some people knew Naruto's true identity, such as the Ino-Shika-Cho and the Hyuga, they did not want to offend the Third either. They would not get close to Naruto themselves; they simply did not stop their children from playing with him.
Qiu Shan Uchiha did not consider himself a good person, but even he could not do what the Third Hokage had done just to control the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.
Naruto Uzumaki might have been the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, but he was still just a little kid who knew nothing. More importantly, he was the Fourth Hokage's child.
Besides, the Nine-Tails itself was an embodiment of darkness, hatred, and loathing. If Naruto had not been kind by nature, with Asura's chakra inside him influencing him as well, he would have long since become a troubled child who hated everything and wanted to destroy it all.
Qiu Shan Uchiha was still lost in thought when he suddenly heard someone calling from behind him, "Hey, big brother! Wait! You dropped something!"
Qiu Shan Uchiha turned and saw Naruto running toward him, panting, with the coupons he had deliberately dropped clutched in his hand. He felt a headache coming on. I dropped those on purpose for you to pick up. Why are you giving them back?
Qiu Shan Uchiha did not know whether any Anbu were secretly watching Naruto nearby. To avoid provoking the Third's already sensitive nerves and minimize his contact with the Nine-Tails, he could only put on a cold expression and say:
"What do you want, kid?"
Naruto Uzumaki had long since grown used to that sort of attitude. He raised the coupons in his hand.
"Big brother, you accidentally dropped your coupons when you came out of Ichiraku Ramen. I brought them back for you."
Some of the chill faded from Qiu Shan Uchiha's face at Naruto's words. He pretended to pat his pocket to check, then refused:
"I don't need them, kid. Those coupons expire in a month. I've already been assigned a mission outside the village, and I won't be back for two or three months. Keep them if you want them. If not, throw them away for me."
With that, Qiu Shan Uchiha turned and left without waiting for Naruto's response.
Watching the older boy turn and walk away after saying his piece, Naruto did not know whether he should chase after him. While he hesitated, his stomach suddenly growled. After two days without a full meal, it was ready to revolt. Naruto had originally planned to enjoy the aroma outside Ichiraku Ramen before going to the river to catch some fish to fill his belly. He had never expected this windfall.
Now that he knew the older boy no longer wanted the coupons, Naruto felt comfortable keeping them for himself.
Naruto unfolded the coupons he had been clutching so tightly. His grip had left them a little crumpled. Happily, he began counting.
One, two, three... The more Naruto counted, the brighter his eyes shone. There were twenty in all, and every one was for a large bowl of ramen.
Having stumbled upon such a fortune for the first time in his life, Naruto was overjoyed. He carefully pulled out one coupon and tucked the rest into an inner pocket of his clothes. Then he eagerly jogged into Ichiraku Ramen, holding up the coupon and shouting, "Teuchi, one large bowl of ramen!"
His encounter with Naruto Uzumaki was only a minor interlude, and Qiu Shan Uchiha did not dwell on it. He would leave Sasuke Uchiha to get all lovey-dovey with Naruto in the future. As the reincarnations of Indra and Asura, the two were destined to remain entangled throughout this lifetime.
Qiu Shan Uchiha strode into his home. It was an ordinary house with a small courtyard. His parents had been fairly ordinary members of the Uchiha Clan. His father had been an unremarkable Jonin, while his mother had been a Chunin. They had died on a mission when Qiu Shan was nine, so they had not left him much of an inheritance. The house they left behind was simply the sort of home an ordinary family of three would live in.
After opening the door and stepping into his room, Qiu Shan Uchiha could not help rubbing his eyes. As the eight-hour mark mentioned by the system drew closer, his eyes felt increasingly hot and swollen. At times, he could even feel the blood vessels pulsing around them.
Qiu Shan Uchiha could sense that his Eye Power was growing as his unique Dōjutsu awakened. As his Eye Power increased, his Mangekyō Sharingan felt as though it was being stretched beyond its capacity, making his eyes feel hot and swollen.
As time passed, Qiu Shan Uchiha felt that his Dōjutsu was on the verge of awakening. As his Eye Power increased, his eyes had already activated the Three-Tomoe Sharingan on their own. The three tomoe spun faster and faster, as if doing so could consume the excess Eye Power.
The Sharingan's three tomoe spun faster and faster, faster and faster. Just as Qiu Shan Uchiha began wondering whether his eyes were about to burst, the three tomoe seemed to melt, shifting and tracing an entirely new pattern. It somewhat resembled Shisui Uchiha's Mangekyō, but its interior was hollow. It also bore some resemblance to Obito Uchiha's, with the tips of the pattern barely connecting. Perhaps because of those hollow spaces, however, it looked far more intricate than either Shisui's or Obito's Mangekyō.
As the pattern of Qiu Shan Uchiha's Mangekyō emerged, the system's voice rang out in Qiushan's mind.
"Congratulations, host. Your Mangekyō Sharingan has finally completed its awakening. Please examine its specific functions yourself." "Warning, warning. System inspection has determined that, with the completion of your Mangekyō Sharingan's awakening and the formation of its Dōjutsu, your Mangekyō Sharingan has reached its limit. Until your Sharingan evolves into the eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, do not copy or learn any further Mangekyō Dōjutsu."
