Background / History
Aegon is a transmigrator whose adult soul was reincarnated as Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell’s son. He retains knowledge of the original story, although he distinguishes his previous life from his identity and obligations as Aegon Targaryen 3 5.
In 282 AC, the infant Aegon survives the violence in King’s Landing and a shallow mass burial outside the city. Despite a badly damaged skull, he crawls free and scavenges among corpses while enduring hunger and exposure. He later remembers his mother primarily as a warm embrace, followed by being torn away and having his head smashed against a wall 66 414.
An elderly fisherman finds him near Blackwater Bay and offers food, shelter, and training in exchange for taking him far away. Across the sea, Aegon receives the identity Lott Hayne and joins a village whose inhabitants all bear the Hayne name. He eventually stays behind to help the Haynes escape the city watch; they believe he died afterward, while he considers this act repayment for his rescue 66 67.
By autumn 297 AC, Aegon has spent fifteen years trying to reach the Valyrian ruins. Unable to afford his own ship, he joins an expedition recruited in Volantis, expecting transportation and mercenary pay. His poverty and memories of nearly starving contrast sharply with his royal ancestry 3 5.
Appearance
Aegon is a tall, straight-backed young man with finely sculpted, handsome features and an unusually composed expression. His resemblance to Rhaegar initially causes Jon Connington to mistake him for his father, while Oberyn also recognizes Elia in the gentler contours of his face 91 175 377.
- Hair: Long silver-white hair 377 407.
- Eyes: Violet or purple 64 198.
- Ordinary clothing: Frequently wears plain black clothes and a black cloak 62 99.
- Battlefield appearance: Black Valyrian steel armor, a dark red cloak, and ancestral swords 156.
- Later armor: A ruby-studded three-headed red dragon decorates the breastplate 309 316.
Personality
Aegon is cautious, controlled, and difficult to intimidate. Early in the expedition, he conceals his identity and avoids disputes he cannot safely influence. As his power grows, that caution becomes confidence: he insists on knowing prospective allies’ resources, rejects emotional pressure, and delegates tasks without surrendering final authority 3 67 98.
His leadership combines practical care with severe coercion. He demands equal respect for the rescued Silent Men, rewards proven service, and distinguishes commanders’ mistakes from failures caused by unfavorable circumstances. Conversely, he executes defiant captives, uses terror to secure submission, and openly acknowledges that civilian deaths during his conquest of King’s Landing were deliberate 70 71 157 198 246.
Family loyalty does not mean political deference. Aegon protects Daenerys, supports Viserys materially, and acknowledges Jon Snow as his younger brother, but refuses to yield his hard-won authority to his uncle. He also rejects becoming another Rhaegar and ultimately describes his purpose as overturning feudal society rather than merely restoring his dynasty 139 175 176 322.
His judgments are not uniformly forgiving or punitive. He orders rival dynasties eradicated, yet later refuses to punish Sansa for House Stark’s past and privately acknowledges the Targaryens’ responsibility for provoking the rebellion 266 377.
Abilities & Skills
System and Check-In Rewards
- Displays his attributes, physical condition, curses, available draws, and current check-in objective 1 23.
- Provides location guidance after the navigation function unlocks 7.
- Grants weapons, armor, and combat knowledge at qualifying locations 76 162 309.
- Allows rewarded equipment to appear through a summoning gesture 76 309.

|---|---|---|
| Strength | 20 | Very strong, but below the human peak 1. |
| Spirit | 67 | Exceptionally powerful; permits perceptions unavailable to ordinary people 1. |
| Agility | 20 | Twice that of an ordinary person 1. |
| Constitution | 23 | Strong health and vitality, but not immunity to curses 1 23. |
Perception of the Dead
- Can sense and see spirits, an ability familiar to him since childhood 5.
- Touching a spirit can draw him into a replay of its final experiences 3 5.
- Uses fragments of a Torregar survivor’s memories to navigate ancient ruins and operate a blood-reactive door 28.
- Can normally suppress supernatural perceptions through concentration; exhaustion weakens that control 5.
- Death replays leave him mentally drained and physically weakened 5.
Martial Skill
- Targets gaps in armor and continues fighting after his original blade breaks 30.
- Integrates Maegor’s ferocity and battlefield survival instincts with Arthur Dayne’s precision and dual-wielding technique 57 162.
- Uses footwork and confined terrain to fight multiple attackers while unarmored 344.
- Fights alongside recruits at Silverhall and saves Oberyn from an attack from behind 297.
- Initially lacks advanced riding experience; Maegor’s combat memories address this weakness 57.
- His armor cannot eliminate blunt-force trauma, fatigue, or the effects of an injured leg 30.
- Detects a mismatch in Blackfyre and Dark Sister’s handling when practicing with both swords 162.
Bond with King Ghidorah

- Deploys Ghidorah’s golden lightning as both a weapon and an instrument of intimidation 82 388.
- Ghidorah requires magical energy rather than merely ordinary food. Depletion of the Death Dragon’s stored energy prompts Aegon to seek powerful prey in Valyria 72 139 140.
Prior-Life Knowledge and Blood Magic
- Uses remembered story events to identify Euron’s likely activities and recognize political threats 3 58.
- Remembers historical information about House Rogare while concealing that knowledge during negotiations 68.
- Knows characters and their defining details, but cannot automatically recognize every person on sight 346.
- Studies and records ancient Valyrian blood magic; the supplied passages do not establish a complete repertoire of spells 156.
Strategy and Command
- Turns rescued mercenaries into a loyal core, then recruits pirates and surrendered soldiers under explicit rules and incentives 43 71 75.
- Preserves the Blood Oath Band’s cohesion by keeping less reliable pirate recruits separate 71.
- Delays dragon intervention to give commanders experience and soldiers opportunities to earn merit, intervening when losses become wasteful 157 208 261.
- Uses Tommen as a political rallying point intended to draw scattered opponents into a coalition he can defeat decisively 224.
- Coordinates land offensives with naval attacks on enemy ports, trade, shipping, and supplies 207 297.
Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Brienne — Recognized as his knight on the basis of skill, trust, and responsibility rather than religious ceremony; receives Lady Forlorn 360.
