The letter Robb had received was written by Viserys himself. Though its wording was not exactly polite, neither was it arrogant.
The letter said that Sansa Stark was now safe, and that King's Landing welcomed envoys from the North to negotiate a ceasefire. Viserys also mentioned Arya, saying that she missed her family dearly and hoped a reunion could be arranged soon.
Robb had read the letter over and over, as though trying to uncover some hidden trap between Viserys's lines. Unfortunately, beyond those seemingly ordinary words, there was nothing.
"Your Grace?" Brynden the Blackfish stood beside him and asked with some curiosity, "What are you reading?"
Robb handed the letter to the Blackfish and rubbed his temples. "Viserys has captured Sansa and Arya. Now he's using them to threaten me."
"His letter says they're 'safe' now." The Blackfish frowned after reading it carefully.
"So?" Robb turned to look at the map of Westeros hanging on the wall. "Am I supposed to trust a Targaryen?"
"You should trust your own judgment." The Blackfish set the letter back on the desk. "Viserys hasn't killed Sansa or Arya, nor has he used her as a hostage to demand that we withdraw. Instead, he's offered to negotiate. What does that tell you?"
The Blackfish truly did not want to go to war with the Targaryens now. Negotiations would be the best outcome. He was also one of only two people here who had seen a dragon. The other was Catelyn, but unfortunately, she had only glimpsed it from a distance and had no idea how powerful the creature really was.
