Renly stood atop the tallest tower, gazing out at the sea to the east. Ever since news of the fall of King's Landing had arrived, he had not known a single day of ease.

The sea wind was strong, making his cloak snap and flutter. Loras appeared behind him in his white rose armor, but the usual ease was gone from his face.

"Loras, how far have the armies of the Reach and the Dornish come?" Renly asked without turning around when he heard the familiar footsteps behind him.

"The Dornish army, led by Oberyn himself, has reached Fairwood. Randyll Tarly's vanguard from the Reach has already reached Coppers Gate. Since the lords of both castles have brought all their troops here to Storm's End, those castles will fall very soon."

Loras looked troubled as he continued, "As for the rest of the army from the Reach, they've reached the area around Summerhall. Between the two armies, they have at least eighty thousand men."

Renly fell silent for a moment at that figure, then asked, "How long will the provisions in the castle last?"

"Under normal circumstances, two and a half years," Loras said after a moment's thought. "If we ration them, they'll last even longer."

"That will be enough. Storm's End has never been taken."

As though trying to bolster his own courage, Renly said firmly, "Your father, Lord Mace, besieged it for a year with fifty thousand men from the Reach and still couldn't take it. There were only a few thousand men inside then. Now we have thirty thousand. Their eighty thousand are nothing to worry about."

Loras said nothing. He knew perfectly well that Renly was saying this deliberately.
