Viserys turned his head and looked at Roslin's delicate face.
Sunlight streamed through the window and fell across her face, making her skin look almost translucent. Her lashes were long and thick, even casting a small shadow beneath her eyes.
Roslin sensed his gaze on her, so she turned her head and met Viserys's beautiful violet eyes.
Her face flushed at once. She quickly lowered her head, her fingers twisting the hem of her skirt again.
But Viserys did not look away. He reached out, took her chin, and gently lifted her face.
Roslin's body instantly went rigid, and her breathing quickened.
Her lashes trembled violently, but she did not close her eyes. She simply stared at Viserys, his face reflected in her blue eyes.
"Do you know why your grandfather sent you to King's Landing?" Viserys asked gently.
Roslin bit her lower lip and nodded.
"I do," she said in a voice so soft it was barely audible. "Grandfather told me... I was to come and attend to Your Majesty."
"Then are you afraid?" Viserys asked.
Roslin fell silent for a moment.
"A little," she finally admitted. "But I'm not afraid of you, Your Majesty. I'm just afraid I won't do well enough. After all, Your Majesty Viserys, you aren't as terrible as the rumors say. You're a gentle man."
The corners of Viserys's mouth lifted slightly. "You don't need to do anything else. Just stay here, be good, and learn what you ought to learn. In time, you'll understand what to do."
With that, he released her and turned toward the door.
"Rest for now," he said, glancing back at her. His voice was gentle. "I'll come to see you again tonight."
