Viserys looked down at her. Amid the steam rising from the wooden tub, Jeyne's face had an unusual glow. Her brown eyes stared unblinkingly at his body, filled with nervousness and shyness, but also an affection she could not hide.
Viserys reached out and grasped Jeyne's hand, which held the wet cloth. It was small, her fingertips warm. When his palm closed around it, she flinched slightly but did not pull away.
"Jeyne, when you were in King's Landing," Viserys said, his voice sounding rather low in the enclosed space, "did you bathe Sansa like this, too?"
At his words, Jeyne's cheeks flushed even deeper. She lowered her head and pressed her lips together before finally stammering softly, "N-no. Lady Sansa and I helped each other wash. Besides, we had other maids. I've never bathed anyone by myself."
She paused, then raised her eyes again, a hint of honesty in her gaze as she continued, "When I told those two maids that I'd attended you in King's Landing, I was lying to them. I actually... I don't really know how. But I wanted to see you, to be closer to you. That's why I lied."
Once she finished, she seemed to have laid down some burden, and her whole body visibly relaxed. Her hand began moving the wet cloth again, slowly tracing Viserys's chest and brushing over his firm, warm skin.
Silence fell over the bathhouse, broken only by the faint murmur of flowing spring water and their mingling breaths.
"It's all right. If you don't know how, you can learn slowly," Viserys said. His voice was quiet, yet remarkably clear. "We have time, after all. There's no hurry."
