If the Wall truly fell, it would not spell utter ruin for Viserys.
After all, he had King Ghidorah, Blackflame, and a vast Dragon Horde numbering dozens of dragons. At any moment, he could take Rhaenys, Daenerys, and everyone else in Westeros he cared about back to Valyria.
On the Valyrian Peninsula, he had the foundations he had spent more than a decade building, along with the Valyrian Freehold's comprehensive defenses on land, at sea, and in the air.
Within his sphere of influence in Essos, he also had many Temples of the Red God and priests of the Lord of Light, as well as the elite soldiers of the Free Folk Legion, who had always remained utterly loyal to him.
Even if the Cold God's army of the dead occupied all of Westeros, he could still hold firm across the Narrow Sea. The geothermal heat from the Valyrian Peninsula's volcanoes was enough to fend off the bitter cold, and their stockpiles of food and resources could sustain the entire Empire for years.
The Cold God's immense threat to the living might even bring the Empire's soldiers and civilians closer together, while exiles from elsewhere seeking his protection would make his power more secure than before.
After all, faced with the threat of annihilation, people would always seek the strongest shelter and gather beneath it.
But that was only his fallback, not the outcome he wanted. He had already put down roots in Westeros and built up a great deal: the allegiance of houses across the realm, an intelligence network, the soldiers who fought for him, and the Targaryen Loyalists who had come together through war.
Viserys considered himself rational enough, but he was not heartless. These were not things he could simply abandon and walk away from. Every vassal's
